Hellknights in Hell's Vengeance

Hell's Vengeance

So, as all of my players have decided what they want to play in Hell's Vengeance. One of them told me that he wants to be a Hellknight armiger of the Order of the Chain.

I'm wondering now if a Hellknight can swear the Hellfire Compact and later on could become an Agent of Thrune. To what rank do you think a Hellknight could rise, before the conflict of interest becomes to big to go on? Or is the concept of serving a noble house completely against the rules of being a Hellknight? Could this decision hinder an Armiger's path to becoming a Hellknight?

One of the iconics for this AP becomes a Hellknight, so it seems strongly implied that yes, yes you can. The exact Hellknight order might matter, though.

It depends on which is the character's primary loyalty. Then again, as long as a Hellknight abides by the Measure and the Chain, that is probably enough for most in their order.

Also, do you really expect that there aren't already Agents of Thrune in the Hellknights?

The Rival Guide had a foursome of Thrune agents that included a Hellknight (and Cleric of Asmodeus), so potentially conflicting organizational loyalties and agendas don't prevent it.

Thanks for the responses. As it looks I'll have two Hellknight armigers: one of the Order of the Chain, one of the Order of the Godclaw.

So as there doesn't seem to be a fundamental conflict, I'll let the players decide for themselves.

Plus, there's also the fact that...

Hell Comes to Westcrown SPOILERS!:
...should the PCs be successful, the terms of their contract are up, and they're free to pursue their own desires. So a Hellknight could potentially see this as a necessary thing to help stifle the chaos the Glorious Reclamation is causing, but ultimately only temporary, after which their direct service to the crown is done and they can devote themselves wholly to their order.

Sovereign Court

My character is going to be a Bastard of House Thrune, so him having major small dog syndrome and seeking power within Thrune would maybe drive him towards The Order of the Glyph, but also being an atheist would make The Pyre appealing to him. Does the AP give opportunity to join these?

The Order of the Pyre would probably be the better choice of the two.

The Order of the Rack may also be an option.

Sczarni

At some point I thought I read in a previous Paizo book, that each order of Hellknight had a favoured weapon, like flails or what have you.

Was I imagining that?

Anyone recall which book, or know what said weapons are?

@Krodjin - it is in Book 3 of the Council of Thieves AP, What Lies in Dust. There is an article on Hellknights there, although some of it may be listed elsewhere as well.

Chain: flail
Gate: dagger
Godclaw: morningstar
Nail: lance or halberd
Pyre: glaive
Rack: longsword or whip
Scourge: heavy mace or whip

Necro, but in case some else pops in here and wonders. This is also listed in the Hellknight Aspirant trait in the player's guide.

As well as in Path of the Hellknight (good read).
