Uriel Aurelius |

Wiping the cultist's viscera from his blade, Uriel kneels and murmurs a quiet prayer in Celestial.
"Grandfather, thank you for the power to overcome this demonic minion, and may your wrath ever be poured out upon evil ones through this unworthy vessel. Let your eyes fall upon your humble servant, and your wings continue shield me and my allies. Grant us your wrathful strength to end the demonic threat, and conviction to carry on through whatever challenges us."
He then rises, sheathes his blade again, and exhales deeply. He makes no effort to clean the gore from his face and armor. Flipping through the papers, he casts the prayer book aside roughly. "We should burn this blasphemy." When he comes across the other paperwork, however, he pauses. "This...this should be taken to the Iomedaeans when we return to the city. It contains keys that may unravel quite a bit more of Baphomet's blasphemers in the area. Though we may have to take that duty on ourselves, if they have their hands full."

Alexa Dorne |

"Celestial." Alexa answers Arloric's question. "The language of the side that's going to win this war."
"Now, what do we do with the rest of the mongrelfolk here?"

Arloric Dziergas-Highbough |

"I certainly hope so, Dorne," he replies. "I don't know why such a pure language is so hard to listen to, though."
Dun dun DUNNNN! :P
"We give them a choice, I say. Offer them a chance to return to their people or try to make their own way through the caverns."

Aberus Ocellio |

"I am nearly spent. But we can't safely rest here as long as the other folk remain." Aberus looked down at the two bodies. "As much as I'd like to gather everyone together and offer them a choice on what to do with their lives, odds are good we'd be outnumbered and it'd be too tempting to just attack us outright."
He looked back up at the rest of the party. "We've also left a few bodies scattered around that will be easily discovered if anyone looks. That will end the same way. As much as I hate to admit it, we need to whittle them down some more, and do it now. Lose the element of surprise and we could find ourselves in deep trouble."

DM Azura |

So, where to now? If you do decide on the social approach, that will, of course, rely on Bluff (if you lie), Diplomacy (if you try to get the to see that working with you is in their best interests), or Intimidate (if you threaten to kill them if they don't cooperate). If you want to hunt down a few more, decide what part of the complex to check next.

Arloric Dziergas-Highbough |

Arloric nods.
"You have more experience on the front than I do. We'll do things your way. But first..."
He draws his sword and goes over to Hosila's body, lifting it up and severing her head at the neck.
"Showing her head as a trophy should break their will to fight quickly."
Arloric's gonna do this a lot...just warning you. It's an old Sarkorian tradition I based off the Celtic "cult of the severed head."

Uriel Aurelius |

Uriel nods to Arloric. "I was just going to say that showing them what happened to their leader would likely dissuade any who might think to do something...rash." Uriel says, then walks over to prod the corpse of the tiefling, before drawing his own sword. "May as well make the message twice as clear." he says, before chopping the tiefling's head off.

Telerin Quenya |

Evil and chaos often turn upon each other. I would not be surprised is they wipe themselves out as they vye for power remarks the elf.

Aberus Ocellio |

Aberus was disconcerted by the the sight of not just one, but two, severed heads. He turned away, trying to keep them out of sight.
"One of the guards said Hosilla usurped their leadership. There may be a faction here that was unhappy with the change in management but unable to move against her."

Aberus Ocellio |

"Indeed. We'll have to keep an eye out for trouble as we spread our news, too.
"Shall we begin? There's no time like the present."

Aberus Ocellio |

Here's the general plan:
We work our way up to Gabby and Lucky. We're looking for rooms with idling or sleeping mongrelfolk as we go. At each point, we do the following:
- Uriel makes an Intimidate check (+4 if his sword is showing) with Aberus doing an assist (+2). Aberus will use his Touch of Glory ability to give Uriel a +1 bonus on each check. He can do this 4 more times today. Aberus's speech will be some variation of "You have two options: leave this place and seek redemption on your own, or stay here and meet Hosilla's fate." The heads will serve as the emphasis. They do not get to depart with weapons. Suggest we tie hands tight enough that it will take them time to work themselves free.
- When we get to Gabby and Lucky, let Gabby go, as promised. She does not get her holy symbol or weapons. Lucky has sealed her fate and is executed as a known cultist of a demon lord.
- We collect the NPC's and return.
- Work our way to the exit that leads top side.

DM Azura |

Ok, good plan!
Recovering the heads of your foes, you make your way back - from the meeting hall, you head wast back to the lower guard post. There you quickly cow the two mongrelfolk on duty.
Uriel: Intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Seeing the head of Hosilla, they moan and wail. "It's over!" one of them shouts. "How will we survive now? Like monsters again, living on the cast-offs and refuse!"
Undaunted, you demand their weapons and bind their hands, then head forward, dragging them along by a leather cord.
In the common room are three more mongrelfolk. Once again, Uriel holds forth Hosilla's head and tells them that she is defeated and the cult's plans are undone.
Uriel: Intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
While two of the mongrels look uncertain, the third - apparently a woman, with blue skin and a bow - snarls, "You won't leave here alive! After all we've worked for, we'll never let you sabotage us!"
Initiative: Aberus Ocellio: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
Initiative: Alexa Dorne: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Initiative: Arloric Dziergas-Highbough: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Initiative: Telerin Quenya: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Initiative: Uriel Aurelius: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18
Initiative: Mongrelfolk: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Wow, for round 1 the party is up first - apparently the threat has left them hesitating!

Aberus Ocellio |

We overlooked Telerin identifying Hosilla's magic items earlier. She was taking 10, and has a +8 to Spellcraft when ID'ing magic items. I believe an 18 is just enough to reveal the command word and charges on the Wand of Spiritual Weapon since it's a 2nd level spell.
Aberus pulled out the wand taken from Hosilla and spoke the command word, then stepped aside to help form a defensive line. "New leadership," he said quietly, gesturing to the defiant woman.
Round 1 move action: Draw the wand
Round 1 std action: Cast Spiritual Weapon from the wand, directing it at the woman who spoke
Round 1 5' step: W
Spiritual Weapon (scimitar): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Spiritual Weapon Damage?: 1d8 ⇒ 8

Uriel Aurelius |

Dropping the head, Uriel advances and attacks the leftwost of the mongrelfolk.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Alexa Dorne |

Round 1: Actions
Move Action: Move to get a clear line of fire on rightmost mongrelfolk
Standard Action: Sneak Attack bow shot!
Alexa rolls her eyes, shifts so she gets a clear line of fire, and shoots at the rightmost mongrelfolk.
Oh well. We tried.
Sneak Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Damage?: 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + (1) = 4

DM Azura |

You saw Hosilla use the wand, so it should be no problem for you.
The spiritual weapon shimmers into existence, but the scimitar fails to distract the mongrelwoman with the bow.
Uriel crashes into the one on the left and shivers his guard, but the mongrelman stays up.
Alexa fires on the one on the right, and the arrow skids along his armor, causing him to flinch.
Telerin, Arloric.

DM Azura |

The mongrelman engaged with Uriel (#1) takes a swing at the paladin:
Mongrelman: Club attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
... but his skills are not up to the task.
The mongrelman on the other side advances on Arloric and tries to brain him:
Mongrelman: Club attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
... with similarly no luck.
The archer steps back a bit and fires her bow at Uriel:
Longbow attack, point blank, into melee: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
... and the arrow skids off the ground. She lets out a snarled curse.
ROUND 2 party up!

Uriel Aurelius |

Ducking the mongrel's attack, Uriel responds in kind, but cuts only air.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

DM Azura |

Will save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Uriel catches only air; the archer shakes off Telerin's attempt to daze her.

Aberus Ocellio |

Aberus placed his wand in his off hand and then drew his scimitar. He stepped up to the mongrelfolk skirmishing with Uriel and swung.
Attack (melee, scimitar) vs mongrel thug: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Damage (scimitar): 1d6 ⇒ 6
Attack (spiritual weapon) vs mongrel archer: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Crit confirm?: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damage (spiritual weapon): 1d8 ⇒ 1
Round 2 move action: Draw scimitar
Round 2 5' step: N
Round 2 std action: Attack

DM Azura |

Aberus and Arloric make quite a showing, rattling both of the mongrelfolk that they fight, without finishing their opponents.
Alexa!

Alexa Dorne |

Round 2: Actions
Free Action: Drop Shortbow
Move Action: Tumble into a flanking position with Arloric
Standard Action: Sneak Attack!
Alexa tosses her bow aside and tries to leap into position...
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
...stumbling, and finally winding up for a punch!
Cestus Sneak Attack *Flanking*: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 + 2 = 18
Damage?: 1d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + (6) = 10

DM Azura |

The mongrelman swings at Alexa as she passes by...
Club AoO: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
...but barely misses. Alexa then knocks him out with a solid punch that shatters his mandibles.
The other one makes a desperate swing at Arloric...
Club attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
...and also fails to move in on the druid's defenses.
The archer turns her attention to Aberus.
Longbow attack, point blank, into melee, favored enemy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
...and lets out another growl of frustration.
Party up!

Aberus Ocellio |

Wouldn't Alexa have hit the one she flanked (the one on Arloric), and not the one in melee with Uriel and me?

DM Azura |

I hate having to edit on my iPad. It always screws up maps. Updated.

Aberus Ocellio |

Aberus deftly dodged the arrow from the mongrel archer, and then brought his scimitar around again at the mongrelfolk in front of him. Off balance from the defensive move, however, his swing was clumsy and failed to connect.
Attack (melee): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
In the distance, the shimmering force that was his spiritual weapon made it's last attempt to strike before winking out of existence.
Attack (Spiritual Ally): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Uriel Aurelius |

Uriel steps to the mongrelman's far side to split his attention 5-foot step to flank with Aberus then attacks again with his sword.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 2 = 27
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Confirm?
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 2 = 27
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

DM Azura |

Aberus, I believe the spiritual weapon uses the wand's caster level, which is caster level 3 (the minimum to put a second-level spell into a wand). So it should last 3 rounds.
Uriel splits his mongrelman foe from tip to toe in twain! His mighty sword barely hesitates as it reduces the twisted creature into a steaming pile of guts and flopping flesh. Killed outright!

Alexa Dorne |

Round 3: Actions
Move Action: Draw short sword
No Action: 5' step north
Standard Action: Stab last mongrelfolk!
Alexa tries to keep her eyes averted from the gory sight next to her and draws her blade, stepping forward.
Then, she strikes!
Stab: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Damage?: 1d6 ⇒ 6

DM Azura |

Alexa misses with her tumbling stab, but Arloric brings his sword down nearly in the mongrelwoman's toes; she barely gets her foot out of the way on time. She lifts her bow over her head and snarls, "Fine! You win! I surrender!"

Aberus Ocellio |

"A wise decision," Aberus replied, weapon still held at the ready.
Let's get her wrists bound quickly, and strip her of any other weapons.

Uriel Aurelius |

Uriel cleans and sheathes his blade, then assists Arloric in disarming the mutants.
