GODSLAYER

Homebrew and House Rules

I would like to create a prestige class for pathfinder: the godslayer.

the idea is the following:

Once upon a time, before various civilization came to be, a certain number of gods went berserk and mad. the other gods, saw the conflict as something that would tear the very fabric of existance, so they assembled a powerful "anti-god army": the godslayers. like rangers, they hunt their enemies (gods) to prevent the further destrucion of the fabric of reality. and of course, these chosen were mortals, so the very fabric of realty would not be destroyed. ANYONE could become a godslayer, at the condition that their power is used ONLY to stop gods that lost their mind. now, after centuries of services, the godslayers are few, and their powers diminished, but they are not to be understimated; their skills is still powerful and when fighting gods or gods related creatures, they shine and battle with great skill.

so, if you are a god with the wish of destroying the whole fabric of reality, watch your back, a godslayer will probably appear and sap all your powers making YOU powerless.

so beware...

Requirements (for now):

Only ONE godslayer can exist per signle planet or plane (depending of the case), however the godslayers can gather in places if they want. Not many however remains....

Alignment: any, but you must make a oath to protect the reality at ANY cost even at the cost of your life.

IMPORTANT NOTE: the last special ability of the godslayer should be something that allows him to remove/seal/destroy the threat, but at the cost of his life. a character this powerful could be too much OP in any campaign.
i await suggestions.....

Don't even bother making it a prestige class. Make it a story trait or something, or perhaps just deal with the desruction of gods in a more roleplaying or creative way. It really doesn't need to be a class.

This sounds it would be a really potent template.

Although it doesn't use Pathfinder RPG, I recommend taking a look at Ryan Macklin's very fun (and entirely free to download) game Mythender, in which the players portray god-slaying "heroes" who must balance their humanity against the seductive (but ultimately corrupting) power that helps them achieve their goals. Golarionender is the Golarion spin on Mythender, letting you end curmudgeonly divinities like Rovagug, Sarenrae, and Aroden himself! I case you're just looking for an outlet for god-slaying, these make for fun one-shot games or even conclusions to a long-running campaign.

i know, but i'm trying to figure a way to build this prestige class. to make it balanced.

i don't know...like...
his power should work ONLY in presence of gods related creatures, divine spellcaster...
the real problem of the fact that it is an OP class is to find some "restrictions" so it dosen't look too much op.
well, it is only an idea...so we can go wild...can we?

The Godslayer can attempt to draw out a God or enter a God's realm against the deity's will. The Godslayer rolls Intimidate, Diplomacy, or Bluff to draw out a Diety against a DC 45. The Godslayer gets a bonus of +1 per Godslayer Level/Mythic Rank (depending on how the ability/Class is set up, max bonus of +10). A Godslayer can attempt to force travel into a God's realm with a DC 45 Will save in addition to a means of travel into that realm (such as Planeshift). A Godslayer can use this ability once per month.

^This gets you there

At max level a Godslayer can attempt to sever the ties between a diety and their divine spark, making the diety able to be destroyed. To do so the Godslayer must have made a knowledge Religion or Knowledge Planes check, DC 40, to understand the means to sever the tie, which is particular to each diety. Provided the Godslayer has all necessary components they can begin a 30 day ritual to prepare the ability, which requires 8 hours of dedicated focus per day. Each day the Godslayer may make a DC 30 stealth check to conceal what their intent is to any person, deity, etc that may be prying. The Godslayer may take a 10 on this check with an extra 4 hours of preparation. At the end of the process the Godslayer makes a DC 50 Spellcraft check to see if they were successful. If they are not, all componants are destroyed and the Godslayer must start again. If they were successful then as a full round action when within 100 ft of the deity, the Godslayer may sever the divine spark of the deity, this ability may only be used once per ritual and only one ritual may be prepared by the godslayer at any time. If the Godslayer is attacked during this action or otherwise forced to break their concentration they must make an appropriate concentration check, treating their HD as their Caster Level, highest ability score modifier as their casting modifier and spell level as 10. If they fail the concentration check the preparation and attempt is wasted. Provided they succeed or are not forced make a concentration check then for 1d4 minutes the deity is mortal and may be destroyed, as such.

nice.i will take a note of that....

but.. it needs something else...
bonus on skills?

Oh, those are just 2 abilities. One to draw out/travel to the Diety and one to have a chance to kill them. Note that I added no bonus to the killing ability DCs (I also edited it to allow take 10 on stealth and to make a concentration check if necessary), that was intentional. It should be very difficult to pull off.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

A concept like this kind of transcends prestige classes.

I could see maybe a mythic ranger archetype that hunts down mythic creatures.

What sort of all powerful being is going to allow itself to be hunted?

"Oh, there's some mook that wants to kill me one day."

Lightning bolt from heaven. Problem solved.

The options I posted also work nicely without it being for a class
