The answer to the first question is yes. For the second one, darkvision is better unless you already have it, then you can get both that and low light vision.

When using polymorph spells you lose things like natural attacks and sense that depend of creature type. So if you're a half-orc, and you turn into an elf, you lose darkvision, but gain low-light vision. If you're looking for a good form that has both, a sasquatch is a medium sized humanoid with darkvision 60', low light vision and scent, also has a slam attack and 40' movement speed as well. Doesn't have a swim speed like the boggard though.

Sewer Troll is probably your best bet mechanically. Darkvision, low-light vision, scent, a bite attack, and two claw attacks with a 10 foot reach. Everything you could possibly want, unless you're planning on going for a swim. Or interacting with people in a civilized society. Or looking pretty.
But other than that, you're good to go.

re: Sewer Troll
Being dazzled in full-light is a bit of a drawback though.
Light Sensitivity is not listed as one of the abilities you gain via Alter Self. A GM might rule differently, but as listed you're completely in the clear when it comes to daylight.
Same thing goes for other creatures with Light Sensitivity/Blindness/etc. They're technically still abilities, even if ones with only negative effects.

Alter Self is one of the most versatile utility spells in the game, which is why I love Urban Druids, who can use it at-will at 6th level.
Or you could buy a 12,000 gp magic item for the same ability.

Having Scent just may more than make up for that, though. Let's say you take Blind Fighting feats, too, then make Smoke...
That being said, perhaps it is better if pick some other form to Alter you Self into when you do so in bright ligth, and save Sewer Troll for when you are in the dark.

does a reach weapon also work with a persons natural reach?
Natural reach or reach due to natural size? - the sewer troll only gets the reach with claws, not melee weapons.
A size large creature with 10 foot reach, using a large size reach weapon does threaten from 10 to 20 feet from their square but the sewer troll is size M and doesn't get reach except with their claws.
I'm not sure if it would be appropriate to have the alter self and an enlarge person stack in the way you are implying either.
