____________

Yes, you do.

Darkvision is usually better, because it works even in total darkness - but only within 60 feet.

The answer to the first question is yes. For the second one, darkvision is better unless you already have it, then you can get both that and low light vision.

cool

There are some humanoids with both darkvision and low-light, so you can get both if you alter into one of those, like the boggard.

When using polymorph spells you lose things like natural attacks and sense that depend of creature type. So if you're a half-orc, and you turn into an elf, you lose darkvision, but gain low-light vision. If you're looking for a good form that has both, a sasquatch is a medium sized humanoid with darkvision 60', low light vision and scent, also has a slam attack and 40' movement speed as well. Doesn't have a swim speed like the boggard though.

Yup, and if you're looking for a small humanoid with both, you can use the Svirfneblin.

i want to go bigger.

Sewer Troll is probably your best bet mechanically. Darkvision, low-light vision, scent, a bite attack, and two claw attacks with a 10 foot reach. Everything you could possibly want, unless you're planning on going for a swim. Or interacting with people in a civilized society. Or looking pretty.

But other than that, you're good to go.

So... sewer troll under a disguise self effect? ;)

Alter Self is one of the most versatile utility spells in the game, which is why I love Urban Druids, who can use it at-will at 6th level.

Being dazzled in full-light is a bit of a drawback though.

Light Sensitivity is not listed as one of the abilities you gain via Alter Self. A GM might rule differently, but as listed you're completely in the clear when it comes to daylight.

Same thing goes for other creatures with Light Sensitivity/Blindness/etc. They're technically still abilities, even if ones with only negative effects.

Or you could buy a 12,000 gp magic item for the same ability.

Having Scent just may more than make up for that, though. Let's say you take Blind Fighting feats, too, then make Smoke...

That being said, perhaps it is better if pick some other form to Alter you Self into when you do so in bright ligth, and save Sewer Troll for when you are in the dark.

what lvl of the spell would you have to be to get the reach claw attack?

The general consensus is that the reach of a natural weapon comes automatically with the natural weapon itself. So as soon as you can cast Alter Self, you can turn into a sewer troll for 10 foot claws.

Sadly, sewer trolls aren't available in PFS; they're not from one of the books listing polymorph options (bestiaries only). In a home game they're golden. Well, a sickly green shade of golden.

combine the sewer troll's 10 foot reach claws with an alchemists long arms spell to have a 15 ft reach of effect yes? as in AoO?

also if a sewer troll was enlarged to large would his reach then be doubled as well?

does a reach weapon also work with a persons natural reach?

Natural reach or reach due to natural size? - the sewer troll only gets the reach with claws, not melee weapons.

A size large creature with 10 foot reach, using a large size reach weapon does threaten from 10 to 20 feet from their square but the sewer troll is size M and doesn't get reach except with their claws.

I'm not sure if it would be appropriate to have the alter self and an enlarge person stack in the way you are implying either.

In the magic section under transmutation, polymorph: "other spells that change your size have no effect on you while you are under the effects of a polymorph spell"
