Question - does the blessing that you pull from the game box with an adventure deck number of 1 go into your deck as an upgrade? or do players just upgrade to a blessing with an adventure deck 1 from their class deck box?

No. You never get to keep cards from the game box in your OP deck. For OP purposes, you just get an extra Blessing 1 deck upgrade.

Ok that's what I thought. I am just wondering why the reward was worded the way that it was instead of the more simpler way of saying it.

The reward wording needs to work for both Adventure Card Guild characters playing out of a Class Deck box and non-Guild players playing out of the game box. In the latter case, you do actually keep the card you drew.
