If I take Gunsmithing and buy a gun, what happens when I retrain Gunsmithing? I assume I could keep the gun, since I had it when I purchased the firearm.

I think there might be other cases where retraining would remove something from the Additional Resources for a given character, do these end up getting sold back for full/retrained for free?

By the time you can retrain the feat you probably have the fame necessary to have bought the firearm anyway.

If you're speaking of the free firearm that Gunslingers receive at 1st level, then it disappears into the void, along with any money you spent to enhance it.

If you're speaking of taking the feat, buying a firearm, and retraining the feat, I'd strongly encourage thinking otherwise. You would never again be able to enhance it, and you could never again buy ammunition for it.

And while it might be me (I'd have to consider carefully first) you will find some GM's who won't let you use the gun at all if you do this.

I think he's talking about using an ability to temporarily gain the feat whenever he wants to enhance it or buy ammo, but then never having the feat in normal play.

@Jessex: even with Fame, Additional Resources says you can't buy a firearm without the feat.

@nefreet: I'm talking more about the latter. I'm not worried about it being effective, I just want to play like a Gunslinger for a few sessions for a "play like every class with one character" concept build.

@Roue Eidolon: yes.

Say a Half Elf Medium 10 casts Paragon Surge in Absalom to gain Gunsmithing and buy a Gun and a pile of bullets. Can they use Champion Spirit to get Exotic Weapon Proficiency(Firearms) and blast away for a few days, then sell the gun back?

One of my PC found take advantage of a loophole about Retraining Gunsmithing.

He take 1 Gunslinger level first and purchase a Dagger pistol(740gp) by 2pp and Ammos. Then Rebuild his character before 3xp at no cost, losing Gunsmithing and still using firearms.

Should I forbid him to use firearms ?

Since I no longer do PFS1, I excuse myself from this thread ^_^

Yes. It's clearly a loophole. "The rules say I shouldn't have a gun without the Gunsmithing feat but I found a way around that! Haha!"

The PFS rule is due to text in Ultimate Combat regarding the availability of guns.

Emerging Guns: . . . Adventurers who want to use guns must take the Gunsmithing feat just to make them feasible weapons. . .

PFS defined "feasible" as "you can't buy a gun without the Gunsmithing feat." Clearly intended to be "you can't buy a gun and continue to use it throughout your career unless you have the Gunsmithing feat." Not "you can't buy a gun without Gunsmithing but once you have bought it you no longer need Gunsmithing."

Side note: 2pp allows you to purchase a single item of up to 750 pp. A gunslinger could buy a dagger pistol but would lose the "leftover" 10 gp and couldn't spend it on ammo. You may already know this, I wasn't quite sure from the phrasing.

Thank you, Belafon. Your quote is clear and solid.
