I think they're using the names of that Cobra villain team from the comics--all villains named after snakes (Cottonmouth, Diamondback, Bushmaster). But very re-envisioned.
Based on the trailer though, I'm most interested in seeing Black Mariah rise to power. That's what I wanted for the second half of the first season, and then she was weirdly sidelined for the Diamondback plot which I just found boring as f%&+.

Sadly no. Luke Cage just happens to have several villains that share names with Serpent Society members Diamondback and Bushmaster.
I'd love to see the Serpent Society in all their whacky snake-themed glory, particularly Sidewinder and Anaconda, two of my favorites. (And Diamondback/Rachel, for that matter.) But Luke Cage definitely is not the place for them, since they are pretty colorful and quirky. They, like Batroc the Leaper, would require a bit of tweaking, and a more four-color, less street-level, setting, IMO.

That was my (failed) point, that the Serpent Society would probably require some tweaking to be taken seriously, as Batroc was tweaked for Civil War (no twirly mustache, no ridiculous accent, etc.).

3. There's more effortless slap-downs
Seriously, the "effortless slap-downs" are one of the major draws for me!
Yes! I do recognize the need for the big dramatic fight where the hero can lose hard at the end, or even at the beginning (where he has to find his mojo and come back swinging at the end), but I totally love the power-fantasy of super-folk just wading through some minions who can't really hurt them. Ever fight is a potential death sentence for someone like Daredevil, who isn't bulletproof, but his 'super-power' is being not quite as blind as the average blind person, so, yeah.
Luke Cage, on the other hand, is 'the unbreakable man,' and I love seeing him just sort of ignoring attacks by regular folk, even regular folk with guns. Show off those super-powers! That's what I'm here to see! :)
Hes got some great 1 liners in the season. Loving the heroes for hire references that keep getting dropped too. on episode 6 atm.
Yeah me too. I don't know if you've seen it yet but at some point she wipes her finger across his lip to get some saliva then puts it in her mouth and I wanted to barf.
I dunno about BARF...but it wasn't very romantic.
What's REALLY weird-ing me out is how Bushmaster seems to be nearly invincible. At least at the start.
We'll see how that plays out.
Also, not a huge fan of the way the season ending the way it did...

I'm just on episode 11 and after episode 10 all I can say is that they need to produce a POWER MAN and IRON FIST series like NOW.
Episode 10 was so much fun to watch, especially the easy camaraderie between Danny and Luke.
So far I'm liking this season of Luke Cage far better than the first. It's more cohesive and the performances are uniformly great especially Simone Missick, Alfrie Woodard, and the late Reg E Cathey. Even Finn Jones is growing on me as Danny Rand. I dont think that this season suffers from the slump that the Marvel/Netflix shows and am looking forward to Daredevil S3 if it's just as smooth as this one.
The ending didn't work for me, but you're right about they need to do a Power Man and Iron Fist show. That was a GREAT episode.

As with so many series, I wish it would have been shorter. Parts of it felt like it was just treading water. Trying to build to a big event in Ep 6-8, it's like... c'mon, I know there are 5 more episodes, this stuff is not the showdown you're trying to make it out to be.
They should have done a season 2, and a season 2.5, and released them a few months apart. Instead of the constant up and down for various characters, just do two separate arcs and make them distinct. A lot of just kinda blends together in this, and a lot doesn't feel very impactful.
Parts of it were good, and the title character is developing nicely. The Danny episode was good, and whoever wrote him for that episode needs to be in charge of IF2, because he was way more likable in that than IF1 or Defenders.
This was the first I heard of Cathay's passing. I will miss that gravely baritone.
I thought this season was one of the best of all the netflix ones. At least in the top 3.

I noticed the case Misty took the Judas bullet from was labeled Hammer, so there was a nice little easter egg from the movies.
Damnit, I was really starting to like Piranha. He reminded me of Carlton Banks from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

I finished it yesterday. I thought the whole thing was pretty great, with just an outstanding cast (although at times it feels like Luke Cage himself is the least interesting character, but I guess that is what happens when you have a "paladin" as your lead. And I am now genuinely looking forward to Iron Fist, just on the basis of what they did in one episode.
Also, did anyone by chance catch the Cloak and Dagger Easter Egg.

Finally finished the season last night. Some thoughts.....
Speaking of whom, while I was sorry to see them kill off Mariah (if only because I thoroughly enjoy Alfre Woodard), it made sense. There really didn't seem to be much more they could do with the character.
I'm glad to see Shades survive, and hope they keep him going in the next season. Maybe Luke can visit him in prison to get some advice. That actor did a great job.
The new mob chick, Rosalie Carbone, is usually a Punisher enemy. It'll be interesting to see if they bring her into season 2 of Punisher, keep her around for Luke Cage season 3, or maybe both.
I like Sugar, and hope they keep him around as Luke's new bud.
I wonder who the villain will be for next season. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing the Serpent Society.

Actually, RC is going to be on the next season of Daredevil, not Punisher.
This was a fun season.
Bushmaster paid a severe price, perhaps more than we saw. The implication is that he nearly lost everything - his empire in Brooklyn, most of his mind and body and all but 1 known member of his family - in his quest for vengeance. A very understandable villain.
Shades was well portrayed. The likelihood of getting out of Rikers anytime remotely soon is ... minute.
Maria's character arc lasted longer than most villains ever get. Awesomely portrayed.
I am going to miss the actor that portrayed Carl/Luke's father. Fare the well, good sir.
Claire getting bounced out of Harlem's Paradise at the end was an ... interesting decision by Cage.
Tilda Johnson was not happy about Maria's decision to leave HP to Cage. At all. I suspect she will have future roles to play as an exceedingly dangerous antagonist in the next season. Doctors with functioning knowledge of Obea are not villains to be taken lightly. She has the capacity to step in and scoop up at least part of Bushmaster's Brooklyn operation.
Carbone is a very cool cucumber. I suspect that she will surface in Daredevil season 3 and/or Punisher season 2 as the four Defenders start "cleaning out" the boroughs one by one.
Which would be pretty cool to see happen.
The end set-up was well handled I thought. How will Cage deal with becoming the defacto criminal King of Harlem? What does he let slide, what does he drive out of Harlem ... and what drives his revenue stream?
The Luke Cage series to me is tied with or a bit better than Jessica Jones' series. The major characters 'feel' like people. Cage himself felt like he was in transition the entire season. It will be interesting to see how he emerges from this season into the seasons following.
P.S. I love that D.W. stepped in and bought out Pop's, once more becoming the Switzerland in Harlem. I hope that they keep the swear jar in place.

Im 4-5 eps in and not enjoying the brooding emo slide Cage is in. We already have enough of that from DD and JJ. I always liked that he was the more positive member of the netflix defenders. Though it seems like season 2 is the slump for these shows and maybe it will get better S3? Of course, The Punisher and IF S2 only have up to go...

I just looked, and the show does have a new showrunner. Their credits include successful projects like the movie Elektra, and the hit tv show Clue.

There are a few theaters over the years I've spent a lot of money at on concessions. You get to know the staff pretty well in those circumstances. When you get up a third of the way or less into the film ... *shrugs*

But on the first showing, about ten minutes in an older Texan lady came out of the threater and demanded her money back. The cashier couldn't help himself, knowing that nothing "scandalous" happens in the first ten minutes, so he asks "Sorry, m'am, but what exactly didn't you like about the movie?"
"Well," she replies, fumes coming out of her ears, "this was supposed to be a cowboy movie, an them boys ain't nothin but a coupla lowdown shepherds."

Yeah I think catwoman was way worse but I didn't pay to see that. and turned it like 45 minutes in after giving it more of a chance. there are worse then that but I don't even start watching some of them.
I generally enjoy horror films and splatterflicks. Most are mediocre to terrible, something I accept as part and parcel of the genre. I don't watch them very often save when the mood strikes. Most of the time I sigh and shrug off the wasted time, making a mental note to not acquire them or be grateful for having seen them on the cheap.
Except for what is - for me - the worst relatively recent film I had the extraordinary displeasure of enduring: ABCs of Death.
There are things in that (long chain of expletives) that I ardently, fervently wish actual brain bleach was available with which to cleanse the taint of having seen them from my brain.
This I acquired a full refund for. There aren't many lines that films of this genre should not cross ... this one did. More than once.
I'll leave it with this bit of advice: satisfying your curiosity is Not Recommended.

I am really, really disappointed that...
This season is very slooow. I am liking the character developments and the overall plot, but they are taking twice as long to get where they need to go than they really need to. I'm doing like the opposite of binge watching, I watch like a half-hour and then take a break and watch then next half an episode the next day.
