One of my players has brought this up to me, I looked but couldn't find much addressing this particular pair of questions. I think I know the answer but just want to confirm it. Warpriests have some blessings that allow them to summon a creature like Summon Monster:
A warpriest can select any two blessings granted by his deity. Deities grant blessings of the same name as the domains they grant. Unless otherwise noted, using a blessing is a standard action. A warpriest without a deity can select any two blessings (subject to GM approval). If a blessing's power duplicates a spell effect, the warpriest's caster level for that power is equal to his warpriest level.
Battle Companion (major): At 10th level, you can summon a battle companion. This ability functions as summon monster IV with a duration of 1 minute, but for only a chaotic outsider or an animal with the entropic creature simple template.
So question 1 - I'm reading that an ability that "functions as" Summon Monster IV would take a full round to cast, and would be an exception as per "unless otherwise noted". Is that correct that it would be a round casting time to use this ability?
Secondly, assuming that is the case... the feat Sacred Summons changes the casting time of Summon Monster (for creatures with an equal alignment to that of the caster) to a standard action. The way I'm reading that is that since this ability is called Battle Companion and not Summon Monster that this would simply not affect this spell. So question 2 - is that true?

"Unless otherwise noted, using a blessing is a standard action." Being based on Summon Monster isn't specific enough to be "noted". Battle companion is intended to be a standard action. You can even combine it with quicken blessing to get two on the field at the same time, one as a standard and a second as a swift.

Thank you for the response, that sounds a little more useful to me.
How does one generally determine the "notability" in cases like this? If it is explicitly mentioned in the text?
