KitsuneWarlock's Guide to Kitsune

I welcome all suggestions, complaints, criticisms and/or opinions.

At this point its mostly complete. I need to expand on the Kitsune Star-Gem section to include Domains, Bloodlines and Prestige Class abilities. I want to add a couple builds to the guide too.

Would pictures improve on it? I prefer having it load as quickly as possible since I access guides like this on my phone all the time.

Well, my first thought was that excellent Races of Pathfinder by Cartmanbeck and Broken Zenith covered Kitsune, but they are such an expansive race that surely there's more to talk about with them.

Unfortunately, while more expansive it is not by much and the results seem suspect to me. Where the two guides cover the same territory I found myself in agreement with Zenith Games instead of this one. Fox Shape I agree with from this guide, but one of the best Pounce abilities in the game is orange? And the amazing prerequisite red? A swift action is way better than a move and I can't imagine a time when I would need swift actions more than I would need move actions as a martial. Particularly when you break it down by class as most of the martials Kitsune are good at are very swift action barren.

It also bares mention of Psychic casting for Kitsune Sorcerers. I don't think I should have to explain why, but the Psychic bloodline gives you the ability to cast in any form and without an abundance of physical signs.

I believe there is firmly space for such a guide, but this one leaves me underwhelmed.

The input is appreciated. Honestly, I've never seen that guide before and probably should have done more homework. I tried to write this guide with PFS in mind, and playing an unarmed strike Kitsune I'm probably biased against Vulpine Pounce (Pummeling Charge is just so much more useful). And playing a Swashbuckler and a Monk kitsune, I found swift actions at a premium, but that doesn't mean other martial classes wouldn't find the swift shapechange feat more useful. Both very good points that I'll change when I update the guide, which a poster on another board found some other problems with.

Ah I didn't know about the Psychic Bloodline. That's an amazing catch!

This is very much a work in progress.

Well, I'm excited to see the guide gather up more steam and become better as a result. I can certainly see why an unarmed strikes Kitsune would be spoiled with Pummeling Charge, but other martials have no such resort unfortunately.

Another cute note is Psychic sorcerers don't need Eschew Materials. Though, unfortunately there's few good archetypes that give it up and I actually rather fancy Crossblooded so you can get fantastic sorcerer bloodlines psychic casting arcana.

Overall, I am eager to see this guide develop as Kitsune are a complex (and my favorite) race. I wouldn't mind when this is finished maybe adding a 3P section as I rather like Everyman Gaming's additions.

Displacement does not give total concealment. It gives a 50% miss chance as if the creature had total concealment. By RAW there is no other benefit to the spell than the miss chance.

Charm Person SLAs are subject to Spellcraft checks just as much as Charm Person spells are. There was even a fairly recent FAQ on it.

Also, can someone explain to me what the big deal is about swift or move action shapeshifting? I struggle to think of any scenario where that slight speed increase would make a meaningful difference. In my mind, it's certainly not worth a feat in and of itself (pounce prereq aside), and it's only good as a race trait if you can't get any use out of the alternatives. Am I missing anything?

Ya know, I can't honestly say this better than has been said.

You know how Realistic LIkeness is really excellent? With the investment of just one more feat, you can use those unlimited casts of alter self as a Swift action instead of a Standard. This means that you could be running away from a bad guy at full speed, turn a corner and change into someone you just saw without even slowing down. Seriously, this is excellent.

There's always something good to come from action economy. I can see why someone who's always methodical and uninterested in on the move tricks can overlook this one (My next character most likely will), but changing who you are in the blink of an eye is really fun.

May the record stand that I bested the odds and was NOT the person to make this thread!

Shamans actually have a few abilities dependent on charisma. Most of them are wisdom I believe but one archetype lets you channel energy. Dexterity also works because it boosts armor class. Important note, spirits make oracles and shamans incredibly diverse. You could do just about anything with them. Nice job though. Lots of cool stuff.
