I'm partial to Fair Warning, and I have a deep nostalgic bond with 1984, but YMMV.

"Fair Warning" was a great album! My personal fave is really the first followed by VH II, which was really just leftover tracks from the first LP. Both had a very innovative sound for the time, ushering in what would become a new era of heavy rock and metal in the States before the New Wave of British Heavy Metal took hold.

Just found out that my mom moved early this week.

Yes, we are a tight-knit bunch.

My mom would check herself into the hospital then call me and my sister to tell us.

I was in the hospital for three days before it even occurred to me to call my family. >_>

In my defense, I thought it was going to be an ER visit and then home, then overnight, etc. I had no clue I was going to be in for a week. I did call before the surgery.

I can relate.

A couple years ago I decided to call my older brother on a Saturday. This happens like once every 3 months. To my surprise, he actually answered his cell. He was very chatty. Talked all about how his kids were doing, work, travel plans, etc.

After about 20 minutes he says, "Well, looks like I have to go. The nurses have arrived to prep me for surgery."

Turns out he had an inflamed appendix and was about to go under the knife, and my call was the perfect way to pass the time. But still... WTF.

Silver Crusade

Also, my dad was once hospitalized for pancreatitis and I didn't find out until he was out.

Silver Crusade

So, might not be the best place to ask this, but...

In a couple weeks I'm visiting my brother and his family, and his kids (8 and 6) have the D&D starter set. Looking for a very short module I can run (5e starter set compatible) with minimal prep. Any Treeforters know where I can find one?

My oldest brother didn't find out I was moving from Philly to Houston until I was already here. It surprised him when he called our younger brother, asked something with regards to me, and younger brother said "I don't know, let me put him on the phone."

And yet, the f*#+er never did learn his lesson. Still rarely answers the phone if anyone calls.

Celestial Healer wrote:

Yeah, that's what I had. But I didn't know what it was, and the medical staff didn't tell me anything. They rolled me off to a room. I asked the next nurse when I was going home, and he said, "Oh, not for a long time." Then I asked about meals and was told I was NPO. I had to drag information out of the nurses and the doctors didn't really tell me anything. I didn't feel all that bad once they gave me anti-nausea stuff, so had no clue how bad it was (or could get). I would have been worried had I known about the 10% fatality rate.

When I finally called my sister, I had to leave a message, so I said cheerily that I was in the hospital with pancreatitis. She got home and listened to the message and had a panic/asthma attack. She's an ICU nurse and had listened all night to the screams of a patient with necrotizing pancreatitis. They'd left an open incision over her pancreas and cleaned out the dead tissue every hour or two. It apparently hurts a bit, and poor sis got to hear it all night.

Woops.

Woke up almost two hours before I needed to. Got up over an hour before I needed to.

What job makes of people...

Back from dentist. Still alive. Still annoyed we don't get nano-printed teeth yet.

Approximately $85 gone for root channel treatment and the thermo-hardening filling that will be put in place during the next visit, two weeks from now (though it will be in the afternoon again so I won't be getting a day off at work).

The bad news is that I should also get a tooth crown done for another $175... (which I don't have)

Oh, and exchange rate of dollar to zloty is going worse and worse meaning that any eventual payments for any projects that I might be involved in or plan to participate in, will be worth less for me than they would be two months ago...

Also, until then I have to be extra careful. No biting or chewing on hard things. I think I'll avoid plate-wearing knights for now.

ouch! Sorry to hear that, Drejk.

Is the Dollar or the Zloty the one going down in value?

Either dollar is going down or zloty is going up, not really sure.

Though it seems that applies to euro, pound, and dollar, so it might be zloty slowly going up.

My current procrastination tool: Titan Quest Anniversary Edition.

It's like Diablo II, except it's Ancient Greece (and later A. Egypt and A. China), you custom-make your class by selecting 1st talent tree (out of nine available) at 2nd level, and a second talent tree at 8th level, for a variety of combinations, some better some worse.

A lot of monsters to be expected (satyrs, centaurs, and skeletons seem to be the bulk of enemy forces), plus some less expected (maenads are catwomen for some reason).

Great news, Patrick!

Sorry I haven't been posting very much the past several days, guys. I've just been very busy doing this, that, and other things.

Hmm, we should collect amusing stories for the monkey's return.

What idiosyncrasies or proclivities make you a difficult roommate?

I prefer to undress in the laundry room, toss everything in the washer, grab clean clothes from the dryer, then go shower and dress. When the washer fills, I drop in detergent and run it. Stuff still in the dryer when the new load goes in gets put in a drawer of things I'm not wearing much and eventually moved to the Goodwill box.

This is much easier alone in an apartment/house than with a roomie!

Yeah... that's the ticket...

Beautiful day at the Ren Faire yesterday! Couldn't have asked for better weather.

I need to step up my costume game. Still, my GoT t-shirt got lots of comments.

Glad the weather is nice for you!
It's been raining a little to a lot every day here for a while. So My grass is not getting cut. :/

I wish I had time to attend Ren Faires.
(I wish I had MONEY to attend Ren Faires!) :P

As long as the costumers at the Faires are not all 'Captain Jack Sparrows'.
I have a friend to attends (and gets gigs at, when he can) Faires, and they generally gives out pieces of white paper with a big 'Black Spot' on them to anyone who dresses up as Captain Jack.

When they hand the costumer the Black Spot, they inform them it is for 'UNoriginal Costuming and General Douchbaggery'. ;)

You know that feeling when after a slightly extended weekend (no session on Friday, regular weekend, and a day off on Monday) you return to work, full of energy and will to do actually work* and... There is nothing to do for you for the whole eight hours so you are just loiter around?

*ok, an exaggeration, full of energy is hardly the word I could use to describe myself since... Some 25 or 30 years...

LOL!

I'm with you Sir Dragon, I'm with you,... :/

So I'm trying to wean myself off drinking so much Mtn. Dew because I sometimes drink two litres in a day. My doctor is shocked I'm not diabetic from all of that, but I need to lose a LOT of weight because I'm facing a possible knee replacement sometime in the future.

So by accident I discovered Ocean Spray Cran-Mango and Cran-Pineapple juice. There aren't that many fewer calories, but it at least has Vitamin C.. .lol... but it's become my new addiction.

I have a problem.

might I suggest getting seltzer and mixing it with your juices?

Use the juice as a base. Just less than half of a small coffee cup mixed in with a glass of seltzer.

*sigh* 10 pm again catching me unaware reading <redacted> that I just got from <redacted> in anticipation of a future project.

Thanks, I plan to do that hopefully soon. It's just that right now they're soooo tasty...

DC, there have been recent studies that replacing knees on overweight people is NOT the kiss of death to the new knee that they assumed and that, in fact, it allows said overweight people to become more active and lose weight.

Knee replacement success does directly correlate to patient compliance with post-surgical directions and rehab orders.

[EDIT: I guess it's not really that recent, but a lot of orthopods haven't caught up with this study. ]

I'm too heavy to use crutches to get around on while I recuperate. I've tried them out and can't use them. And the doors in my apartment are too narrow for wheel chairs (I found this out 12 years ago while recovering from an auto accident). So just to be able to use crutches I'll have to lose weight.

Maybe(?)

Who am I to judge? I thought it was amusing. :)

FYI- They have no problems with dressing up as a pirate. They just got tired of seeing lots of 'Captain Jack's' at the Faire's, (Apparently there were a LOT) and want people to at least be an original pirate. :P

Well, I do have a steel rod and plate with 4 screws in my lower left leg, so I'm too a good start.

You have a GoT shirt?

I ordered one recently with Tyrion's quote, "That's what I do - I drink and I know things."

Cutting soda gets easier the longer you go.

I kicked it a number of years ago, and now I've honestly lost my taste for it.
