We're almost done with book 3 of Reign of Winter - the party is currently on an extended quest to free an evil demi-goddess of witches from her entrapment. Their travels are taking them through various frozen lands.
The two arcane-types when missing some time ago, and I've been dmpc'ing one of their characters in the meanwhile. Since the group is going to start the next book (4) in a few weeks, now would be a good time for a new player, specifically a spellcaster of some sort.
The game pacing tends to be a little on the slow slide (a post every 1 to 3 days). I try to go in for a balanced mix of RP and combat.
Humans, Elves, Gnomes, or Triaxian would be most appropriate and easiest to introduce, but other races are possible.
Witches are very appropriate for the adventure path, but wizards, sorcerers, or a bard would also be welcome in the party - or any hyprid (ACG) version of those classes. Check the Reign of Winter player guide for more intro.
20 pt. buy, two traits (one campaign). On account of the game history, everyone has a bonus feat, and we are using very basic hero point rules (no special hero point feats).
In terms of backstory, a moderate backstory will suffice for me. Hating witches or dragons would be a good place to start. The group wanted someone with a reasonable sense of humor - everyone else is busy being very serious.

Interesting. What level?
Oh hey, I totally left the out. The next book starts at level 10.
I would like to put a dot for interest in this. Thinking of a Triaxian Sorcerer (verdant bloodline), Summerborn is most likely for the Triaxian ethnicity.
Just a heads up, the planet is in middle of winter right now, so it's highly unlikely that you would be summerborn (given the ~150 years of winter). On the other hand, I could work that angle - I mean, what good is an evil demi-goddess if they don't have a few demi-planes to stash away interesting specimens?

How much humor? I've got a character from an IRL RoW game that died in book 2, who is a riotous bucket of laughs, and could probably fit the bill of Arcane + Comedy. (He was a synthesist summoner/savage technologist barbarian with an alignment of gnome and an obsession with killing and taxidermy-ing horrific winter creatures). Synthesist tends to be banned from most online games (and I understand why, though I had played him as intentionally un-optimized); would a gnomish regular utility summoner (or maybe first worlder, for the fey connection) make more sense in terms of what the party's looking for?

DM Ranginui |

Is variant multiclassing allowed? And can I buy partially charged wands?
Hi Red. I can't say I'm a huge fan of introducing VMC. What did you have in mind?
Partial wands would be OK, I think - but keep it to something reasonable (some multiple of 10 charges).
How much humor?
A tricky question indeed. Some, but not too much to be disruptive? Humor isn't an actual hard and fast requirement - more of a "would be nice to have". I mean, the party has a love triangle (two humans and a worg!), and another couple besides. It's practically a soap opera in here. :P Someone to crack jokes and ease the tension would be nice.
You are correct in that I'm not terribly enthusiastic about the synthesist/savage technologist, or really any summoner. There's one future cohort and a lot of people already in the game, so adding a bunch more summons to the mix isn't appealing. The summoners I've seen can get out of control pretty quickly unless its a pretty conservative player, what with the standard action summons and multitudinous summon buffing feats. Also in part, I would prefer not to steal thunder from the two heavy duty melee npcs - they are quite competent.

Lucius Cassius |

I was going to bring this sorceror with VMC bard. So I can inspire/buff the party before I start blasting. It also means that I can at least roll all the knowledge skills which is nice. He's already a jack of all trades by design, adding in VMC bard just helps that concept. Plus finding feats for him is hard..
And yes he can do comedy. He's no Bugsby of course, but he's no slouch.
:)
I need to do some more shopping and figuring out a reason he's in Irrisen but he's otherwise done.

thunderbeard |

Hmm. I honestly am more interested in the summoner's spell list and personality—I could take an archetype that gives up the eidolon or the summons (but I don't know of any that give up both). I think Counter-Summoner might work pretty well in Snows of Summer, and Spirit Summoner is just generally neat. (If you still don't think it's a good idea, no worries).

So to recap:
- Timeskeeper, Frjya Elvanna Jadwiga acting against her family, stats complete
- thunderbeard, gnomish (?) spirit or counter summoner
- Amazing Red, Lucius Cassius ex-Razmiran sorcerer (variant multiclass bard) on a journey of reformation, stats complete
- GM Arwright, dotted
- Mawgrim, Triaxian Sorcerer (verdant bloodline)
I'll query my group and see what they prefer.

Duly noted - and I think I've settled on a character for submission.
Merisem Bayark, winter-born Triaxian crossblooded-sorcerer (boreal and verdant bloodlines).
Am in the process of stating up at the moment, and will post stats within next 24 hours (just buying gear mostly)

Tiknesr Th'th'th'th'slifp |

Ooooh, I'd love to join this. Let me introduce Tiknesr Th'th'th'th'slifp (first name pronounced /Tik-NESS-er/, last name pronounces like he's clicking his tongue several times and then licking his lips). He's a Ratfolk Witch who I played previously in a homebrew game set in the Worldwound. This is his profile, which includes crunch, backstory, personality, and reference image.
He's Neutral, motivated to adventure mostly by a desire for power and a hatred of the ruling witches of Irrisen. He leans toward suspiciousness, but he knows the importance of working together "like a swarm", and that if he doesn't find allies he's doomed to fail. His ratling familiar is evil, but is kept in check by Tik (and his evil is there mostly for comedic value). Tiknesr's Patron in Shadows is an open question that I'm happy to have you decide, and bring as much or as little into the game as you wish.
Since I've played him before, I'll link a few sample posts:
- Here he is, introducing himself to a new crew of crusaders, who he's considering joining forces with: one, two
- This post, which introduces his familiar should be an example of his (and my) sense of humor...and this combat post does a bit as well.
The one big change I'm making from when I played him before: I'm pretending Slumber doesn't exist. I found it uninterestingly powerful.
His backstory as listed needs some updating, and I'm inclined to find out a bit more about how and where we'd be meeting before making those changes (but am happy to make them prior to close of recruitment, if you'd like). If you'd like to work together on hooks, I'm happy to do so, but I can come up with something of my own otherwise. (I definitely have ideas of what he's doing in Irrisen, and why he is risking his life to oppose Elvanna.)
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi, I'm going to call this a cutoff on submissions for this - partially because I have an upcoming business trip (one Blizzard "Jonas" simmers down), but mostly so the players have time to discuss.
Note, if you've put a comment in for this already, you can post a character sketch (you don't necessarily need all the details).
Timeskeeper, Frjya Elvanna, Jadwiga acting against her family, stats complete
Amazing Red, Lucius Cassius ex-Razmiran sorcerer (variant multiclass bard) on a journey of reformation, stats complete
Mawgrim, Merisem Bayark, winter-born Triaxian crossblooded-sorcerer (boreal and verdant bloodlines).
Gyrfalcon, Tiknesr Th'th'th'th'slifp, an acerbic if humorous ratfolk witch (and ratling familiar). Stats mostly complete needs adaptation to RoW campaign. For the swarm!
GM Hills, Karyne Morozov, Jadwiga with fire in the blood Stats complete
GM Arkwright, dot
DM Crustypeanut, dot.
TwelvePointFivePercent, dot.
Thanks to those who are still interested!

Dot for character alias (Crustypeanut)
Went for Ley-Line Guardian Witch. Fits better how he got accidently transported to Iobaria, plus a spontaneous witch looks fun.
A quick preview:
His familiar is an octopus, carried in a bucket on his back (Endure Elements help keep the poor thing from freezing in Iobaria) He loves using his beard as a weapon. He has a peg leg. No one can understand him (5 cha) and he cackles alot. He can also fly (using his beard - technically its a hex but IMAGERY is important!)
I got this idea from one of my players in my skull and shackles campaign a few years back. He once killed an important enemy NPC by grappling him with his beard, flying upwards while singing "I can show you the world" before dropping him to his doom. Best. Character. Ever.

Bjornr Steelskull |

Quick and dirty profile is up. Still working on skills and gear. As a spontaneous caster, his spells are pretty much set in stone for now unless I buy some pages of spell knowledge.
Haven't yet applied his bonus spells per day due to int, or any modifications to stats from gear as I haven't yet bought it. Forgot that Ley-Line Guardians don't get familiars, so the octopus in the bucket on his back is his pet - and is now frozen due to him not knowing Endure Elements.. since its not on his spell list. Alas, he doesn't even know Teleport (despite it being a 5th level spell that he -could- have), so he's basically stuck in Iobaria!
Actual background to follow after I get a better outline of his gear.
*Edit*: Gear's mostly done - just 9,500 gp to spend and I'll likely spend that on small items like a few cheap wands, misc gear (like a spell component pouch), and a bucket. Even though his pet octopus is dead, he keeps it around to talk to while all alone in the cold frozen north. I'll finish up his gear if picked (as I don't want to spend too much time on it in case I'm not picked)
Background soon!
