About Karyne Morozov

A stunning Irrisen woman, obviously of the Jadwiga, Karyne has pale white skin with a mildly blue hue, hinting very heavily that she is closely related to Baba Yaga herself. Her white hair is usually kept under a hood, but if the hood is pulled down, it is seen to be plaited in elaborate braids.

An immense counter to the culture of the Jadwiga, Karyne wears reds and oranges, instead of the usual blues and whites of her people. She is much older than she looks and she keeps that fact to herself, but the truth is, she is the granddaughter of Yelizaveta, Thirteenth Queen of Irrisen, great-granddaughter of Baba Yaga herself.

Background:

Karyne was born a mere eight years before Queen Yelizaveta left the throne. Her mother was the second daughter of Yelizaveta and had married a man who was of mixed blood, much to the disdain of her own mother. The man was a very lowborn Jadwiga who was descended from the second queen. His father was from Tian Xia and gave her a bit of his eyes...which for some reason were almond shaped amber orbs.

Yelizaveta's daughter, Vedmia, was a witch and expected the same out of her daughter. As such, she put her daughter into training at a very early age and it looked as if she was understanding magic better than one could have hoped. However, when she was forced to try and cast spells that involved ice, it became apparent that a Winter Witch was not something she was going to be capable of being. In fact, witchcraft evaded her. She had the magic, but she did not have a bond with extraplanar creatures. At a mere age of eight, her mother was taken from her by Baba Yaga, leaving her without the protection of her mother.

Since the world of the Witch was not to be her way, Karyne was forced to study nobility and know as much as she could to take care of her family. She excelled at it.

Unfortunately for her, her eldest cousin, decided to gloat about her own ability as a Winter Witch. The elder girl, in her late teens, created a ball of snow and hurled it at Karyne, only to have the girl explode a fire in a nearby fireplace to melt the ball before it could hit her. That is when she realized that she could use magic...but her blood boiled with the flames she inherited from her father, rather than the ice from her mother.

She used the magic in her blood to power her spells and she used the knowledge that she had learned in her training to help her create spells of the ice variety, but convert them into fire.

Years passed and all of Karyne's family moved on, passing like the falling of snowflakes, yet she endured. Her mother gone, most of her cousins gone, it is only her great nieces and nephews that still live and their scions, but they all respect her, despite fearing her slightly. She has stayed close to the head of her family and tried to veer them away from the darkness of their culture, but she is often a failure at that.

Now, with the most recent head of her family's passing, she finds herself in a situation where she is not wanted. The new head of her house only wants to see the family prosper and doesn't believe that Karyne can help with that, no matter how good she is with people, she simply lacks the court etiquette...and the killer instinct.
