1st - All are welcome to post here, not just me.

2nd - Be nice and polite here please.

3rd - This thread is to discuss computer games that you have modded, are modding, or are planning on modding. It is also where you can talk about any troubles with any mods, what you liked about a mod, what you disliked about a mod.

This thread came about because I have never really modded any games. I was either playing on a sub-par gaming computer or on a console. But with Fallout 4 and XCOM 2 coming out, I decided to get a gaming computer. That led to to realize that some of my overplayed games could be redone in part or totally and give me a new experience with something I enjoyed playing.

Please feel free to jump in and post away, especially since there are so many games out there that I have either never played or never heard of.

There are four games that I plan on starting my modding experience with. They are...

1. Fallout New Vegas.
2. Civilization III and IV.
3. XCOM - Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within
4. Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic II

I will eventually be modding Skyrim, Fallout 4, and XCOM 2. But that is for later.

For XCOM:EU/EW I can't recommend Long War enough. It's crazy hard and be prepared to lose some of your best and back away from a few fights, but it's so worth it.

VanguardOfValor's Let's Play and Beaglerush's Let's Play convinced me of that. The mod looks AWESOME and HARD.

Steam is having a sale on all of the older Fallout games.

i.e. - Fallout 1, 2, 3, New Vegas, and Tactics.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

I'll add confirmation that Long War is amazing. It is NOT for the faint of heart. You will lose. :/ And when they say "start out on the easiest difficulty", for the sake of your sanity, ~please~ listen. >.>

That said, super rewarding and awesome once you start to get the hang of it.

The Nexus Mods site will be used a lot when I mod some of my games.

WOW!!! 888 mods being used for Fallout New Vegas? That is a lot.

I just learned something todayWhen using the console command for New Vegas Script Extender Have your X-Box 360 controller disconnected or off before you can use NVSE. The controller keeps you from using the tilde (~) to access the command line.

~sighs~ I am working on doing some modding of Fallout New Vegas and DarNified UI NV is a pain in the rear to setup. Several of the files were set to "Read Only" and I had to change that. Got it set up now and am working my way through Gopher's Fallout New Vegas Mod Tutorial. Now excuse me while I go pound my head against this wall some more.

Note - BE CAREFUL and BACK UP EVERYTHING!!! You have been warned.

Ok. I am really liking the Nexus Mod Manager.

Oh, I have not forgotten about XCOM. I just have not gotten around to installing the long War Mod.

When modding Fallout New Vegas, use THIS file instead of the standard 4 GB memory file for newer computers.

If you plan on modding a Fallout or Elder Scrolls game, you will want to use both the Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) and LOOT. Right now LOOT is helping me figure out WTF is going on with New Vegas and why it will not load.

~sighs~ But that is a battle for tomorrow. I need some sleep. Have a good night.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

I think I posted mods I used in another thread, but I'm playing Fallout NV with:

JE Sawyer Mod (the lead developer's mod for how he would have liked the game to be -- tweaks some difficulty, makes some things heavier, adjusts some karma loss/gain, etc.)

Freeside Open and a number of the other "New Vegas Uncut" mods (highly recommended--adds back a lot of cut quests and makes the New Vegas area a little fuller with more NPCs, etc. Freeside Open in particular can make your game crash because it's loading a lot of stuff into one area, although I believe the 4GB mod or one like it you mentioned upthread can mitigate that.

A simple mod I can't remember the name of that turns some of the grass green.

Fellout NV (to remove the orange marmalade smear on the camera lens) and a brighter pip boy ---- although at some point I'll probably replace Fellout with a different sky/lighting/weather mod like Nevada Skies or something.

FALLOUT NEW VEGAS WORKS...

sort of. ~goes back to debugging my modded Fallout New Vegas~

Beginners guide to modding Fallout New Vegas.

There is some good info in there.

If I hadn't already exceeded our data limit for the month, I would also start modding Skyrim.

Dark Archive

I have to recommend Fallout 3 - A World of Pain.

Great mod. I just finished Crystal City which was a location added in via AWOP. Basically a level upon deepening level beneath the city of Old Olney. Turned a small area into a large subterranean city city with a cinema, shops and even deeper levels. Complete hell-hole overrun with all sorts of variant Deathclaws - very tough and a lot of fun.

I am really wanting to learn how to make mods for the FONV or FO4 - just seems like a ton of work to get them up and running properly.

The Fallout - NV version of that is on my list of "installed" mods, to be activated AFTER I get the main bugs worked out. Still getting a lot of issues right now.
