Here's the problem, I'm attempting to make an arcane caster that is focused on buffing but isn't afraid to get close-ish to combat. I've decided on elf as that scores me Warrior of Old and Elven Branched Spear as a martial weapon, but I'm having trouble nailing down what class(es) I want him to be.
Originally I had Wiz 5/Ftr 1/EK 6, but I was unhappy with how much spells were eventually going to cost me while leveling in Eldritch Knight. Then I switched it up to Wizard 11/Ftr 1, but I felt like he'd never be able to land a hit with his spear. Finally I played around with a Sage Blooded Sorcerer as Sor 7/Frt 1/ Ek 4, and I just ended up having first level spells forever.
Anyone got any suggestions on how to address the build as a whole or how to fix my problems with the builds I have already toyed with?

Spell Warrior Skald is probably better than Bard here, unless you've got a specific archetype in mind. You get a buff equivalent in power to but more flexible than Inspire Courage, Rage Powers (some of which are awesome buffs,) the same spells, and full martial weapon proficiency so you can actually use the Elven Branched Spear like you wanted.

Bard 7/ Dragon Disciple 4 You decide How to progress further!
Start with a Decent Strength...like a 14 or 15.
Your key Damage feats: Combat Reflexes, Power attack, Arcane Strike
I like to take banner of the Ancient Kings and Flagbearer. Stick it on a Longspear. Move action is for Bardic Performance and a Standard to buff (Usually Haste).
If you want to focus on More bard Levels you can go More bard.
You want those sweet dragon abilities and Bonuses? Go deeper into Dragon Disciple.
