Devil quiet her shrieking soul.

So those are my Hellbred PC's Ability Scores.

That's a 39 point buy. Um, I'll take it.

Hellbred are a lot of fun to play. Hope your campaign goes well =)

Well, since I'm on the Boards anyway, I'll ask for advice:

This PC is going to be a Paladin in an upcoming sandbox campaign that takes place in the Greyhawk Underdark. Based on a nefarious laugh from the DM, I expect that we PCs are starting as slaves that escape and then have the Underdark to make as our own little sandbox.

I usually try to use my ARG's Race Builder chapter to make a custom Race but the DM has declared that Core Races only are acceptable.

These are the two that I've narrowed it down to .... Which should I choose?:...

Half Elf (reflavored to be a Hellbred from 3.5)
With the Drow-Blooded alternate Racial trait replacing Low Light vision with Darkvision, and gaining the penalty of Light Blindness.

Human (reflavored to be a Hellbred from 3.5)
With the Flexible Ability Score alternate Racial trait giving me TWO +2 Ability Scores and taking away the Feat and the Skill point every level.

In case you're not familiar with the Hellbred Race, here's a summation of Fluff:

Hellbred are a race from 3.5 that are reincarnated Evil characters.

Basically an Evil character, as he or she is dying and whose soul is about to go to the Lower Planes, genuinely repents and changes Alignment. The Good deities pull the soul from the Lower Planes to reincarnate it but are very suspicious. And the Evil deities despise nothing so much as a Hellbred -- who, "cheating," escaped the fate they earned as evil characters. And the Good deities hate Hellbred as well, suspicious and and angry at the evil they did in their former lives.

Hellbred do not have any specific knowledge of their former lives, only vague and incomplete impressions. They know that no matter what they do in this, their Second Chance, they will probably end up condemned to the Lower Planes when they die. No matter how Good they are now, they will probably go to Hell or the Abyss. Hellbred are usually aggressive hunters of evil, redeemers & peacemakers -- trying to do as much good as they can in life to prove their worth to the Good deities, knowing that they must do much more than other people to ascend to the heavens -- and evil cultists, oracles, and priests do everything to ruin a Hellbred.

I want my PC to be a Hellbred in the horrible Underdark, recklessly fighting evil trying to make up for his evil past. ....If I can't make a Race in the Race Builder, I think Half Elf or Human may be suitable as a reflavor.

The Darkvision will be extremely, extremely useful in an Underdark campaign, where it'll be dark most of the time and carrying a light makes you a target.

Yes, I want Darkvision.

But,... I have no idea what the other Players are doing and if none of the other PCs pick a Race with Darkvision mine will be less useful. And it is, afterall, only for 60 feet. And let's just say that, especially depending on the other PCs, that Light Blindness may really suck!

But, yeah, I'm leaning to Half Elf reflavored as Hellbred. It's not as if I need another +2 with that Ability Score array.
