Heya everyone!!
This is the link for our roll20 campaign. We're only using it for maps, so you don't have to worry about syncing with time and whatever.
Please sign in post in the discussion on the side with your PC name so I can (eventually) link your account to your avatar.
Also, if you have any revisions you wanna make to your characters, linked backgrounds, whichever. You can do that now as well.
I'll have the first real post up Monday Night or Tuesday night (given the holiday, i'm giving everything a bit more time)
Thanks!!!

Reporting for duty! Thanks for the picking.
I will sign in to the Roll20 page, add some headers with handy dandy stats and D&D (Dot & Delete) in the Gameplay tab to get notifications.

Reporting in!
I'll have time to really look over the game play stuff and check in on roll20 later this afternoon. Looking forward to the game.
I'm all for building pre-game relationships between characters. I'll start looking at the backstories of the other characters later to see if there's any potential ties. Anyone interested is free to do the same for Mamorou.
Small priimer: Mamorou himself isn't super famous, but his bloodline is. It's the fantasy world equivalent of being the latest Kennedy or Windsor. He'said the heir to an extremely prestigious family within a major noble family.
Hu Xiang Lun |
Hi everyone! Sorry for the delay in checking in, I was traveling for the weekend. Looking forward to getting down to business.
I’d be down for pre-game relationships as well. Anyone have a history of merchantimg?
Mamoru Zhao |
Just read my little blurb about my character in my previous post. Ugh. That's why I shouldn't try to post while I'm distracted by other things. I swear the quality of my writing is usually better than that.
Anyway, here's a short list of stuff that anyone with a rank in Knowledge Nobility could easily know about Mamoru-
The Mamoru line is the stuff of myth and legend. They are the traditional bodyguards of the Eternal Emperor.
They married into the Zhao family. They originally came from foreign stock, but at this point don't really have any foreign blood left. Many of the Mamoru traditions come from the Shokuro Shoganate. This causes some problems among the more xenophobic traditionalists in the nobility.
They are known to be bad at political maneuvering. The Zhao family is bolstered by the prestige of the Mamoru line, and often brings them to social functions as part of a display of status and pageantry, but more than once has a Mamoru's blunt tongue and prickly sense of honor set back the Zhao family's political ambitions.
The current Mamoru is a nobody. He is nearing thirty and has yet to distinguish himself in any way. He's a bit of an embarrassment to the Zhao family, but he has the good sense to keep his mouth shut so mostly he just gets ignored.

Sorry, I checked into the discussion thread from my phone - couldn't get to Roll20 from that.
Zhang, noticing your character has a merchanting background, would you care to work out a pre-AP acquaintance?
Perspicacious Gao |
Great idea with the backgrounds.
Gao's not the most famous or high-standing of people, though those who sully themselves to enjoy commoner entertainment like feats of acrobatics and adequate comedy might know him as a relatively new arrival.
I think I'm happy with his stat block at the moment. Although, if Knowledge(martial) and Path of War are used, I might just replace Heal with that.
Mamoru Zhao |
Some potential backstory ties, based on my readings of everyone's backstories. Feel free to ignore them
1) Isawa Ayoshi and Righteous Grieving Silence are both world-wanderers. They could be wandering the world together. The aasamar-teifling dynamic also seems cool to pair
2) Zhang Yunjiang stealing something from Perspicacious Gau seems like a good event to help kick off Zhang's moral correction. Or just as part of their previous dealings, so Zhang has an atonement to make when they run into each other again.
3) Mamorou Zhao's famous ancestor was a Yojimbo who went Ronin because of his lord's dishonorable actions. That ancestor could be related to Isawa Ayoshi's family, making them distant cousins.
Zhang Yunjiang |
I agree on having a moral debt on some of you. You tell me if it's fine, and what kind of deed would you like me to atone for. Stealing money? Something with personal ties to you, that can't be replaced? Maybe a treason?

Zhang, would it be possible for Xiang Lun to have had business dealings with Wei? Since the Hu family is a merchant family, and Wei is also a merchant, I could see them having had past dealings. That would result in Xiang Lun knowing of Zhang, even though they may not have met. Does that work for you?

Yes, cool! You might have heard of the old me, so your expectations when you realise who I am are poor, right? Would be fun to play!
Have you guys read Musashi, by Eiji Yoshikawa? That's what Zhang is all about (more or less).
Also, nice to have an honorable Isawa-sama here with us. Zhang's "knack with the elemental kamis" is also based on Rokugani shugenjas.
Perspicacious Gao |
The Maintenance Monster ate my post yesterday. :(
I love the ideas!
Maybe Zhang has had an encounter with Gao in the past as he was travelling, and has attempted to steal a weapon or a fancy-looking piece of art from him, only for Gao to freely give it, alongside with some seemingly silly wisdom.
@Hu - Gao is a Quain sorcerer, so he might have had occasional conversations with your sister regarding the 'unbound magic', or even how "A wizard sees all five aspects. A sorcerer sees the one truth.". That, and as an entertainer, he might've been invited to your household a couple of times, seeing as they're affluent enough to invite entertainers.

Heh, i thought he seemed a bit like the Monkey King..

That would work out very nicely, yes. He might constantly remind you not to commit a crime or somesuch going forward, even as he sees that you are trying to change.

Conversations with your sister perhaps in passing with him when he was at the household entertaining - I doubt their father would have allowed her much interaction past that. She may be a wild child whose magic is untaught, but she is still a Hu, and has certain expectations of behavior placed upon her.
Incidentally, for everyone, my alias is set up using the traditional nomenclature of surname first, given name second. The characters given name is Xiang Lun, and his surname is Hu.
Perspicacious Gao |
My original thought is that students of the temples don't usually keep as big attachment to their family as other people would do. So Gao's official full name would be Perspicacious Gao of the Temple of the Heavenly Wave.
I imagine that the names and 'titles' would be given at a certain point of their training, and there'd be no real stigma regardless of what the name is, as it is given based on your master's observation of you.
So someone who's intro and extrospective as he is could gain the name 'Perspicacious Gao', someone who is hard-working and obedient could be 'Li the Ox', or someone who makes beautiful calligraphy could be 'Sunlight-handed Hong'. And I'd also imagine his master might've considered to add something about his occasionally annoying tendency to speak in phrases.
I'd be the first to admit I'm not as knowledgeable about culture from that part of the world as I imagine most of you are, but I'm definitely interested in learning more.

I'm awaiting the result of a Perception check as I attempt to determine guard components.
Dragonofashandflame |
Mamoru, you did not play the wrong character
:-p
i though the dynamic of law and order versus sneakery was pretty cool.
You're waiting on me because i, being the idiot I am, ddecided it was OK to hike up a mountain one day, then spend the whole morning (and most of an afternoon) at a beach the next day, and not wear sunscreen on either days, or spend any time in shade). So, I ended up with dose of heat exhaustion or sunstroke or whatever means I look like a lobster, and can't stay awake for more than 6 hours and radiate heat off of me like a foot away.
anywho, updating now.

If you know anyone who can write prescriptions, ask them to write you one for Silvadene. It's burn cream. It's one of those things that really should be available without a prescription, but because it has a very minor dose of steroid in it, it's controlled.
It works great on just about any kind of skin damage, but on sunburns in particular, it's like a magic eraser. Pain relief is instant, and the skin damage will repair itself pretty much over night.

Hey guys! Not sure if anyone is up for some pirating on the Shackles, but there's an open recruitment collecting applications for Skull & Shackles and I'm helping the GM :)
