I'm curious why the promotional cohort Valais Durant has the veteran trait.
Cards with the veteran trait are typically affected by the scenario adventure deck number. But Valais Durant reads:
CohortOutsider
Arcane
Eidolon
VeteranIf the current scenario lists cohorts, treat this cohort as if it were on that list.
If the top card of the blessings discard pile has the Corrupted trait, bury this card to add 2d4 to your combat check; if you succeed, you are dealt 2 fire damage. If the top card of the blessings discard pile does not have the Corrupted trait, recharge this card to add 2d4 to your non-combat check; if you succeed, recharge 1 random card from your discard pile.
So, what gives? Is there a lore reason I'm missing?

Are there other cards with the Veteran trait that don't use the adventure deck number in some fashion?
Mongrels?
I was of the opinion that the Veteran trait meant that the card scaled with the difficulty of the game. Either the difficulty got harder or the effect got better. Mogrels do this by possibly pulling out a higher difficulty card (especially as basics and elites get removed from the game.)
Anyways can anyone point to another Veteran card that doesn't scale in some way.
Also... good eye Ross C.

Giants all have the trait "when damage is dealt, deal damage to everyone at the location." Mongrels all have the same trait too. I know that some cards types and traits have s template. Perhaps veteran just does not have a template?
Sometimes a card will have a trait without the power that normally goes along with that trait. I vaguely recall a monster with the Giant trait in RotR that lacked the "deal damage to everyone" power... maybe an undead one or a villain? Damage was only dealt to the character that encountered him, but he had a power that forced everyone to recharge a card instead.
Having said that, though, I don't see any reason (whether mechanical or thematic) to give a Cohort a Veteran trait without any type of Veteran ability. Odd.

I remember that card. I think it was something like undead hill giant. I believe that someone in a blog said that it wasn't supposed to have the giant trait. Or something like that. It's been a long time since I've pulled that set out. It will be interesting to see what comes up later about the veteran trait. I know a lot of people have asked about a card that will affect displayed cards, so maybe this will either be some kind of villain in set 6 or perhaps something in mummy's mask?

Added to FAQ, though it's not mechanically important. (I suspect that she probably had a scaling power at some point, and the trait got left on after that power was revised.)
