Animate Dead Zombie - Equipping

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

Two things actually. Posting this is rules now, since it is more of a rules thing.

1st: If a humanoid zombie is being created, say a half-orc or human. Does it have only 2HD or can it be created with more? Looking to have something of a bodyguard for a reanimater alchemist disguised as a human-ish, like Greggor Clegain.

2nd: Can zombies be outfitted with weapons and armor? If so, do they suffer any penalties for proficiency?

In a nutshell, you take the dead creature you are animating and slap a zombie template on it (see Creating a Zombie).

So (1) yes, can have more than 2 HD, provided its HD does not exceed the limit of animating (see animate dead spell).
(2) "A zombie retains all the natural weapons, manufactured weapon attacks, and weapon proficiencies of the base creature." If the base creature was proficient with weapons and armor, so is the zombie version. Even if they aren't, you can probably still put armor on them: controlled undead shouldn't resist that.

Sovereign Court

1) You lose all HD gained from class levels, but not from race. Then you add HD based on size.

For example, a human doesn't have any racial HD so it ends up as 2HD. A harpy has 7 racial HD and is medium too, so it ends up as 8HD.

2) If they had proficiencies they keep them. If they get outfitted with stuff they're not proficient with, they take the usual penalties.

Liberty's Edge

Hmm, so a Human or Half-orc would have only 2HD at any give time? Will need to look for some humanoid with more racial Hit Dice that could pass for a more common humanoid in full plate and not look like some disgusting zombie

Sczarni

Giants are Humanoids.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

If you are high enough level to cast Create Undead, you can create Juju Zombies, which keep their class levels.

Liberty's Edge

This is more working within the constraints of these two abilities:

Alchemical Zombie (Su):

Benefit: The alchemist gains the ability to animate a relatively complete corpse as an alchemy-powered zombie. This process takes 1 hour and costs 100 gp in alchemical reagents per HD of the corpse being animated; the dead creature gains the zombie template. Zombies that are created in this manner count as undead created by animate dead for the purposes of determining how many undead the alchemist can control. The created zombie is a creature, not a supernatural effect.

and

Simple Reanimation:

At 7th level, a reanimator adds lesser animate dead to his formula book as a 3rd-level extract. When he uses that extract, rather than drinking it, he injects it into the corpse he intends to animate, which rises as an undead creature under his control 1 hour later. The extract can only create zombies (including variant zombies).

This ability replaces the increase to bomb damage at this level.

Not certain of JuJu zombies fit these constraints. I looks like only fast zombies. That is unless a JuJu Zombies is a variant and not another type all together

Grand Lodge

JuJu Zombies require Create Undead, so neither of those abilities can create them.

Lets say the zombie was created from a human fighter

Is the zombie proficient in all martial weapons and all armor, or because a you drop the class levels hit dice, it is only proficient in what normal humans without class levels are proficient in?

The zombified human fighter has 2 zombie HD, simple weapons proficiency, martial weapons proficiency, proficiency with all light/medium/heavy armor, all shields, tower shields, with its slam attack (or attacks if a fast zombies) and any other proficiencies it learned before you killed the fighter/found the dead fighter's relatively fresh carcass. Its other fighter feats et al are lost.

So, greasing an Aldori Swordlord nets you a 2 HD zombie with EWP (aldori dueling sword). A Taldan Rondelero specialist zombie has EWP (falcata).

Liberty's Edge

excellent stuff everyone! thank you all for the input. Character is going to be a half-orc alchemist that escaped the Technic League and killed one of the mercenaries that they sent after him and turned him into an undead, armored bodyguard.
