2 channel energy pools and variant channeling question

Rules Questions

so we know from the faq that if you have channel energy from two different sources that they dont stack and operate separately of each other.

so can you assign variant channeling to one and leave the other just as is?

for example: spirit caller oracle with the life mystery takes the channel revelation and chooses farming as a variant and then for their spirit chooses life and gets an unaltered channel energy from that.

any opinions?

Variant Channeling

Quote:
When you create a cleric character, decide whether she uses the standard form of channel energy or a variant presented here based on one aspect of her deity's portfolio. Once this choice is made, it cannot be altered.
Quote:
A character who has the channel energy ability from a class other than cleric may use these variant channeling rules if the class's abilities are tied to serving a deity.

It appears to me that the choice affects all channeling possessed by a creature and that you cannot apply it "per pool".

As a matter of RAI, I would say that "when you create a[n eligible] character" means "when you first acquire the ability to channel energy".
There is zero indication that it can (or should) mean "each time... decide".

So if you have access to channeling in some other way can a one level dip in cleric turn it all into variant channeling? For example, a cleric(1)/Witch(x) hex channeler?

Dark Archive

It depends on where you are getting the channeling pools from. If both pools are tied to a deity, yes. They both become variant channels. If any pool is disassociated with a deity, it remains unmodified.
