Ripnugget and Stickfoot Traits Question

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

So bit of a conversation going on...

Ripnugget and Stickfoot traits!
Does Ripnugget have the Goblin, Fighter traits and Stickfoot the Animal trait?

So for your First check Stickfoot, would you only reference the Animal trait and for the second check would you only reference the Goblin Fighter traits?

Or since it is one encounter but two checks would both checks be Goblin Fighter and Animal Traits?

Resolved both checks count as Goblin, Fighter and Animal.

One encounter - traits apply to both checks.

This is a case where the mechanics of the game don't make thematic sense. There is no mechanism in the game to split the traits up for different checks against the same card.

There is, but currently it only exists as a stylistic effect and does not have any mechanical meaning as far as I can tell (there is nothing in the rulebook explaining how traits on such split cards work, at the very least). Take the WotR B Villain Thurl and Inhaz, where you see the traits are "Dwarf Summoner and Outsider Eidolon" (the "and" is in a smaller font and not bolded). That combined with markings on the check to defeat indicating which check is against which entity lets you see that Thurl is a Combat 14 and associated with the Dwarf and Summoner traits, whereas Inhaz is a Combat 12 and associated with the Outsider and Eidolon traits.

That said, due to lack of any mention of those cards in the rulebook (all they say is that banes have traits, which applies to all banes in general), I'd play it in the way that all 4 traits apply to both combat checks rather than 2 applying to the first and the other 2 applying to the second.

Yes, I pretty much meant what you said. The card may indicate which check belongs to which entity, but the rules do not specify you should only apply certain traits to certain checks.

Another example is the Drake Rider in WotR. "Outsider Demon Fighter and Dragon" are the traits on the card. The checks indicate the dragon has a check to defeat combat 21 and the rider has a check to defeat combat 23.

WotR Kyra has a power:

WotR Kyra wrote:
For your check to defeat a bane that has the Demon or Undead trait, you may recharge a spell (□ or blessing) to use your Divine skill + 1d8 (□ 2d6) and add the Attack, Divine, and Magic traits.

Thematically, Kyra should only be able to use her power against the rider, not the dragon. But the card is a bane, and the card has the Demon trait, so Kyra can use her power on both checks.
