Saiyan Race


Homebrew and House Rules


Ability Score Racial Traits: Saiyans gain +2 Str, +2 Con, and -2 Cha.
Type: Saiyans are humanoids.
Size: Saiyans are Medium creatures and thus receive no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Speed: Saiyans have a base speed of 30 feet.
Languages: Saiyans begin play speaking Common.

Defense Racial Traits

Fearless: Saiyans have a +2 racial bonus on all saving throws against fear effects.
Cornered Fury: Whenever a saiyan is reduced to half its hit points or fewer and has no conscious ally within 30 feet, it gains a +2 racial bonus on melee attack rolls and to Armor Class.

Magical Racial Traits

Spell-like ability: Saiyans can cast beast shape ii to assume the form of a great ape once per full moon. Becoming a great ape takes three rounds.

Offense Racial Traits

Ferocity: If the hit points of a saiyan fall below 0 but she is not yet dead, she can continue to fight. If she does, she is staggered, and loses 1 hit point each round. She still dies when her hit points reach a negative amount equal to her Constitution score.
Slapping Tail: Saiyans have a tail they can use to make attacks of opportunity with a reach of 5 feet. The tail is a natural attack that deals 1d6 points of damage plus the saiyan's Strength modifier if Small, 1d8 points of damage plus the saiyan's Strength modifier if Medium, or 1d10 points of damage plus 1-1/2 times the saiyan's Strength modifier if Large.

Weakness Racial Traits

Grapple Vulnerability: Sayains must make a DC 20 fortitude save or be stunned for one round if grappled.

Prehensile Tail: Saiyans have a long, flexible tail that can be used to carry objects. They cannot wield weapons with their tails, but they can retrieve small, stowed objects carried on their persons as a swift action.

The total cost is 15 race points. It would normally be 17, but the cost of Greater Spell Like Ability has been reduced to reflect the limits on its use.

How do you factor in the Zenkai boost?


Couldn't really think of a fair way to include it.


Don't forget that if you cut off their tail they can no longer assume the great ape form.

Also, shouldn't this be in conversions?

Way too Strong. This is basically a 2nd or 3rd level spell as a racial passive? Now if you want to boost the RP of the race higher, and powerful is what you were going for it could work, like drow nobles.

The race is a bit overpowered. Getting a +2 bonus to attack rolls and AC feels a bit much.

I think dazed would be a better condition than stunned for grapple vulnerability.

Saiyans can't really use their tail to grab onto things or make attacks unless they had special training to do so. Goku was never able to do that until he specifically trained his tail to do that.

The great ape form needs to work more like lycanthropey such that the player loses control of their character if they gaze at a full moon. Again, only highly trained Saiyans were able to control themselves in great ape form. It was even something Vegeta bragged about.


Also, I'd switch the malus from Cha to Int. The Saiya-Jin had incredible self-confidence. They were natural fighters and they reveled in it; especially Vegeta. It was intellectual stuff that was their short suit. Also, don't forget that they get a permanent power boost every time they almost die. What I'd do is this; take out Cornered Fury and fold its effect into Ferocity. Whenever Ferocity kicks in, the character gains +1 to Str, Dex, and Con permanently.
