Magical Armor Spikes

Rules Questions

Does the cost of enchanting armor spikes depend on the armor's total + enchantment or are the two independent? Could one make armor with "locking slots" where to put interchangeable spikes (e.g., silver or flaming or whatever other spikes are needed at the time)?

From the equipment section on armor spikes:

Quote:
An enhancement bonus to a suit of armor does not improve the spikes' effectiveness, but the spikes can be made into magic weapons in their own right.

So, the two are completely independent as far as enhancement bonuses are concerned. +1 full plate with +2 armor spikes would cost 7000 gp.

1500 full plate
150 masterwork armor
1000 armor enhancement bonus
50 armor spikes
300 masterwork weapon
4000 weapon enhancement bonus
7000 total cost

As to the second question, the rules really don't address it. I probably wouldn't allow it, as it offends my sense of how the armor is crafted with the spikes incorporated into the design, but nothing in the rules prevent "bolt-on" or "after-market" accessories.

And now I have to photoshop up a picture of a Dwarf with some sick vinyls, underbody lighting, and a sweet full plate body kit.

The magical weapon enhancement of spiked armor would be independent of it's magical armor enhancement. The two would be paid for and tracked separately.

The spikes become part of the armor. The weapon table lists it as spiked armor and not armor spikes for a reason. Think of them as a non-magical enhancement to the armor like a special material. They cannot be swapped in and out.

Well, I seriously rushed this out, and it's chock full of reaaaaally bad photoshop shortcuts, but hopefully it will amuse someone.

I'm glad he had the sense of style to pass on the spinning hubcaps.

Lol like the pic!

On topic, btw the +2 armor spikes enchanted as a weapon would be 8,000gp.

Doh!

You're right, bonus squared * 2,000gp not * 1,000.

Heh, awesome, glad this is making the rounds, didn't expect people to like it that much. I think I should have added a title or motivational postered it... "Item Creation Feats: Not always a good thing."
