Question on Foul Misgivings and Cape of Escape

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Ok, so leave it to my one friend to make this all confusing, but I have two questions in regards to how this scenario played out.

So we were doing the Foul Misgivings scenaro, and going through it like normal. We get to a point where he encounters a Haunt. He then proceeds to go and makes a check to see if he has to fight Iesha, which he has to anyway since he drew the fourth haunt. For the battle against Iesha, he decides to use Cape of Escape to avoid the encounter, then is moved from location A to location B. Since he was moved, and yet he encountered the Haunt, we were at a loss whether or not he could close location A. Since we couldn't find anything like this, we gave up and majority ruled that he could close location A.

My two questions.

1) Was the order of operations correct? If I'm understanding the rulebook, I would assume so.

2) If the order is correct, can one actually close a location after they've been forced to move to another location?

So, let's break it down.

1. Encounter a Haunt.
2. Two "when encounter" effects happen: a chance to close the location, and a check to see if Iesha is encountered.
3. Since we can do both, there's no conflict and the Golden Rule doesn't apply; you can choose the order of operations (either finish the Haunt encounter first and close, or check for and encounter Iesha first.) Then do the other.

With regard to the key question: even if Cape of Escape moves you, you close the location where you encountered the Haunt.

Short form:
1. If you want it to be. The other order is also ok.
2. Yes, usually. (There might be exceptions.)

Now henchmen typically specify that you close the location they came from to eliminate that confusion.

So, I happen to be this friend he spoke of. I tend to run into those once in an adventure kind of scenarios.. well, more than once an adventure. I'd also like to be sure we were doing this correctly, and based on the above response I would be able to complete the closing attempt first (which would mean our other friend, playing Lem, would be able to add his 1d4+1 to assist me in doing so) and then deal with the entire Iesha encounter, correct?

Sovereign Court

Yes. If two things happen at the same time and neither interfere with the other, you can choose the order.

Clearly you need to make a haunt roll.
