When and how do you add the iconic heroes promo cards to the game?
Like any other promo card
We have also published a number of promotional cards; these are marked with the letter P in the upper-right corner. If you have a character promo card, or you have a promo card with the Owner trait and you are playing the character listed as the owner, you can use it right away. Don’t add other promo cards to the game until you begin the first chapter of the Adventure Path.

That last part depends on whether you are talking regular game or organized play. The class limitation would only apply to organized play. In a regular game you would just mix them into the box and hope to encounter them.
Yes. I had actually included wording about the class part but saw this was in the Rules section and not the Card Guild section and removed it.

So just for additional clarification... the Battles Iconic Heroes sets come with cards owned by each miniature (or the companion's associated character), correct? If the owners of two of the cards in set #5 are to be Kess and Zadim, my understanding is that only they can start with them, and only characters of the same class can even keep/use them in PACG, right? Since there are no Brawlers or Slayers in any of the add-ons, base sets, or class decks, what would the ruling be on the use of these? I guess that would go for Hakon, the Skald in set 4 as well.
Would I be right to assume that in OP (as Hawkmoon already advised in non-OP they can be used by anyone) those cards simply cannot not be used at all since no classes will match?

Only in Guild play. In the normal game anyone could use those cards. In Guild play only characters of the same class can have them in their Class Deck. (You answer this yourself in the next paragraph. :)

Owners of the card(s) can start with the it in their deck. (i.e. Harsk can start with Biter in his deck.) But if you are playing another character of that class, you may upgrade to that card later on. (i.e. Wrathack may upgrade an item to the Teapot as one of her upgrades after a scenario.)

Also, because some mentioned "one card per miniature" - I don't expect most of the PACG players are actually using the companion miniatures, but they still usually have "owner:X" on them, so that's TWO card for one character in a box set (Harsk, Lini, Faiya...). The only exception up to now is Balazar's Padrig, whose card is in fact a Monster. Still, I feel it more 'fair' to treat the Rogue Eidolon as it has "owner: Balazar" on it and I add it to the monsters deck when I start a game with Balazar, as opposed to when I begin Adventure 1.

It's the rule for cards with an Owner: Owners may treat the card as if it had the Basic trait. That's why they can include them in their starting decks and other characters cannot, and that's why they can remove them from the game after the appropriate time and others cannot.
In the WotR rulebook, the Basic trait rule is listed in the "Owner Trait" sidebar on page 21. (You have to infer the consequences, though earlier in the book it talks about Owners building their decks with promo cards in them.)

All I was saying is that there's a card for each miniature (so 6 in the current boxes), nothing about who owns them. The text I'd quoted already said the same thing about some characters being Owners for the card that goes with their companion's mini.
Aside: I don't know anyone away from these forums who uses the miniatures when playing the card game, much less the companions. ::shrug::

It's just an AD0 Monster, whether or not Balazar can treat it with the Basic trait. Regardless, it's your game, do what you want. :)

Yes. Though come February that won't be an issue for Zadim.
Zadim won't be showing up in February after all. We'll have to wait and see who will.
