RotRL Character Add-on Deck

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

Hi, I just purchased my Runelords box set and character add-on deck and am loving the game.

I read up on the whole China/USA printings issues. My box set and add-on deck are both USA second printing.

However, there is such a marked color difference between my base set and add-on that I can easily tell them apart during play. The cards are all the same size, but the add-on deck has much darker backs.

I thought this issue was a problem with the change of printers from China to USA, but mine are all USA second printings.

Did I just get a bad batch? Would it be worth buying another add-on deck, or are they all Iike that?

There is always some color variation even within a single print run, but it's not usually significant. You might contact customer service about that.

Thank you, Mr. Wertz. I'll check with them.

Did you get this resolved? I have the same issue.

They aren't reprinting these. Did you just purchase your Rise of the Runelords box? If so, I'd talk to the store or retailer you purchased it from. If they can't help you, then contact customer service. If this is an older purchase, you can contact customer service but not sure if they can help if you waited a long time.

I have Runelord Character Add-on and Adventure Path 3 and 4 that are substantially darker (almost orange) on the back, all of which are 1st printings.

My Runelord base set and Adventure path 1 & 2 are 2nd prints and much lighter (or the same tan as all other sets, paths, class decks, promos, and drivethru cards I own).

I just assumed it was just that Paizo changed printers from the 1st editions of Runelords. I tend not to mix the character add-on into the box anymore as the cards are basically marked - actually had a player say, "...well I know that's not the villain because it's the wrong color..." Likewise, I had a player later in the path choose not to close a location after defeating a henchman as the next card was darker and he was thinking it could be an upgrade. I just started putting a deck protector on top of each location deck so the players couldn't see the color until they drew the card...

Not an answer, but just an experience and work-around.

There have been many posts early on (over a year ago) about this issue. I'm not going to go find the links.

What many suggested it trying to talk to the retailer(s) you purchased the decks from and replace them with the proper printing if available. First printing was done in China and second (and everything since) in the USA.

The other option was using sleeves. Sleeving the cards will:
1) Extend the life of the cards. After many shuffles, you'll find they show a bit of wear-n-tear.
2) Protect the cards. Some people eat and snack while playing.
3) Bypass the mismatched backs of the cards. (Also, there is a difference in size between 1st and 2nd printings. Sleeving helps with this.)
