Hello, is there a way to not get those in my packages anymore?

They truly are a great nuisance. They're a nightmare to dispose of, they fracture into tiny pieces that stick to the books, to my fingers and start floating around the room and it takes forever to clean them.

I'm not sure if they can be properly recycled as plastic and so they're probably not really environmentally friendly.

Lastly, they don't even do their job all that well, since it can happen that books "protected" by them have small dents on the corners.

I'm sorry about this rant, but I would really like to get rid of them, if possible. Thanks for your attention.

I kinda agree on this one. I would be much happier if packages could be sent with those plastic air packs instead of packing peanuts. Plus, better for the environment. :)

Hello there!

I'm sorry that you've had such trouble with the packing peanuts. According to our Chief Operating Officer in the thread that Hawkmoon linked above:

Jeff Alvarez wrote:

Unfortunately the company that holds the patent on the white peanuts (the ones that we prefer to use) has discontinued them and will not sell the patent to anyone else so those are no longer available. The ones made from cornstarch shed organic materials on everything and make books sticky so they aren't a good option either. So the green peanuts are the only option for us as far as peanuts go right now.

We've looked into air pillows and kraft paper options as well but they take much longer to use and don't stand up to the weight of our books in transit as well as the peanut options.

I'm constantly re-evaluating our shipping materials and experimenting so believe me I'm as motivated to move from the green peanuts as everyone else. ;)

We are always looking for better options, but unfortunately we are stuck with the green packing peanuts for now. Hopefully we'll be able to find a good alternative in the future, but we do not have any estimate for when or if that may happen.

Hopefully that helps with your question a bit. Please don't hesitate to let me know if there are any further questions or concerns that you may have in the meantime, and I'll be more than happy to assist as best I can.

Thanks!
Katina

Adding my vote to ban the peanuts. They (the particles) literally make me sick.
