So I have some players in my game that are visiting a player's father's house. He's a famous undefeated duelist, and has many nice blades on display. One player is taking an opportunity to 'try out' one of his "old" swords, an aldori dueling sword the father won as a trophy.
I was trying to select what abilities to put on it. It's a total +6 bonus weapon. Should I just go with +5, keen?

Likely if the old duelist uses an Aldori dueling sword, he has Weapon Finesse, so I would think something like a +3 agile countering dueling merciful adamantine Aldori dueling sword.
I included countering because a lot of Aldori sword duels come down to lots of combat maneuvers; if you're not cool with the flat gold cost, just remove it.

Depends on what kind of build we are talking about? (either father or son)
If we are talking about the duelist PrC (and maybe swashbuckler; bit iffy on that due to exact working) then a fortuitous weapon would be fantastic. This is because, with the riposte mechanic, you get an AoO when you parry the enemy's attack. With fortuitous, you get an AoO...and then a second AoO at BAB -5.
As you can guess, that can just tear enemies apart. And it is only a +1. If you have the mechanics to support this, then this is what you look for.

It is a new thing from the Advanced Class Guide
It is also amazing for reach weapons. A mini full attack whenever someone even tries to get near you. Fantastic if you have some distance mechanics (lunge and pushing assault, typically).

In addition to what others are suggesting, you may wish to take a look at some specific weapons as a starting point.
There are four specific magic weapons in the Advanced Class Guide, three of which are fancy duelist-style rapiers. Two of them have specific Swashbuckler class interactions with panache, but those can be altered if your player doesn't use panache. Just change the rapiers to Aldori dueling swords, and you have some unique magic weapons for a legendary duelist!

That's awesome. Yeah, he has lunge. That would be great!
