working together lich and oracle

Advice

I have necromancer/wizard and in the group is also an oracle, i want to make him a lich without causing the oracle to go against me. she is "trying" to get me to have a change of heart and go good, but the GM said that if i were to become a lich that she would probably go against me due to her alignment and deity. anyone have an idea so that i can get around this situation???

thanks

Right. There are several things I need to know to give you an answer and in no particular order:
Are you already evil?
What is your GM doing letting a player become a lich?
What level penalty are you taking for being a lich?
What is this oracles alignment/deity?
Is your GM forcing the player to go against you?
Does this mean your GM is actively encouraging PVP?

But basically it sounds like alignment inflexibility. It is okay for good people to know evil people and only try to stop them from doing evil things.

The problem you have is the part where it says you have to be evil to be a lich. Get your GM to hand wave it to neutral. Then it would be more okay.

Convince her that you are

a) trustworthy

b) working WITH you is better for her and the group

c) that she is better off when concentrating on fighting the BIGGER evil

I dunno, evil doesn't get a whole lot bigger than a lich...

Basically, being a lich is evil. If you have people in your group who can't work with a undead horror, then perhaps you should, as a player, chose not to be the cause of conflict.

From a mechanical point of view, if your GM just charges you the minimum 120k for the phylactery, then the lich template would be a pretty big power boost that might unbalance the game unless the other characters also get some sort of equal benefit. This is also not good for a game.

I would highly suggest that you have 'become a lich' be a character goal, but one that you as a player understand won't be realized during the course of the campaign. Your character can be researching the process etc, but hasn't made the transformation yet.

That is my advice.

Which deity are we talking here? If she worships Pharasma or Sarenrae, or another deity for whom undeath is a massive taboo then it's probably not going to work. If the deity involved is good but not specifically anti-undead it may be a different matter.

There may well be aspects of their belief or personality you can appeal to. If your Oracle worships a god who values freedom and individuality (Cayden, Desna etc) then emphasise that this is your choice to make, not hers. You could point out that it is your body, and you should be allowed to do what you want with it. As long as you're not harming anyone in the transformation process what's the problem?

Nothing in the bestiary entry about Liches says you need to sacrifice a life other than your own. Aside from the idea being unpalatable and the [evil] spell descriptor of many necromancy spells what are her objections? Get her to say specifically why she objects - "it's wrong" or "it's evil" are not enough. Why does she think it is wrong or evil?

What are your prohibited schools? Did you learn illusions? Misdirect and an illusion could buy you some time once the transformation is complete. If you can't convince the oracle, that could buy you the time to complete the campaign. Oh, and take ranks in Bluff. Also, discuss with the GM to make sure the fear aura wouldn't apply if you were using the illusion to cloak your appearance.

From a GMs perspective, I agree with Dave Justus, this will inherently unbalance the party and cause conflict. But some players are drawn to those conflicts, and many of my most memorable campaigns were so memorable precisely because of those conflicts. As long as you believe everyone is friendly enough outside of the sessions and your GM is amicable, it might be fun. But remember, the game is a game meant for everyone to enjoy, causing too much problems in a group that takes it all very seriously might cause you to be unable to play in the future.

If this can work, so can you!

(Dave Justus also has a good point.)

Also, playing evil characters means you have to be extra-loyal to the party, whatever your in-character reasons for doing so are.
