Yeah one of the biggest weaknesses is that it does not multiply on a crit.
That being said that just means you have no real incentive to go on a crit hunting spree.
I honestly wish I had the money to blow on hero lab seeing as I'd love to thow something into this to see how much i'd have to invest combat wise before I'm officially a pure combat investigator.

I am actually playing an Investigator in a mythic game right now. I made several choices that I obviously would not have made if I had thought things through at all before I started playing him. But I still have the goto character if the party needs to solve a problem, in a group of me + 3 rogues + 1 barbarian + 1 fighter/ranger + 1 sorcerer. My investigator has been nicknamed Batman, the only person in the world who can spot the invisible Display of Dexterity rogues.
EDIT: You are right it is x3... stupid me... And yes seems half-elf deals more damage but I am sure there are ways to get the slayer to deal more damage as well. Anyways the numbers should be close enough for comparisons until someone else posts a build.

So I just copied Igor and made him a half-elf with FCB going to inspiration rolls and using the combat inspiration with and inspired weapon. Also you could go large sized and get the str bonus and use alchemical extract with Good hope for more damage.
