Banished Duergar idea

Advice

I'm working on an idea for the Giant Slayer AP....and wanted to see if I could get some ideas to help flesh out the character...

First BIG one is...why would a Duergar be adventuring on the surface...
I was kind of thinking that he had been banished, or at least had to leave to escape some threat. It would need to be a big enough threat to drive him to the surface world...and instill a need to "get along", as he has no where else safe to go. (Alignment will probably be LN)

Any ideas ???

Second...I'm toying with either Slayer...or Inquisitor...
Opinions as to which will be better ?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I did something similar with a Duergar Monk with the Gray Disciple archetype, although I kept him Lawful Evil. His story was he was captured by Mindflayers, and while he was being hauled back to wherever they were taking him, they were ambushed by Drow, where he was captured again. I played his personality where he was very distrustful of most people.

I'm not sure if Duergar society has the same level of political intrigue as Drow...but I was thinking that he was possible sent to kill a notable of one clan for something...only to find out it was a set up to shift the blame on that person....now he is considered a "loose end"...and had to flee.

Logan: I am thinking of going LE, especially if I go Inquisitor
