Is 500 word the minimum or maximum? I'm just checking to see whether I need to trim my submission or expand it before sending it your way.

I'm tempted to look for an editor for my wikis. Phaeselis needs an editor pretty bad; and I'm writing two campaign expansions. *sigh* Should I put up an ad or not?
I have a good reason why I shouldn't, but I need some help pretty badly. Also, someone experienced in Wiki-design would also be helpful.

Just a general question
What is the rate for someone to use InDesign to do some layout for future POD so it is compatible with say DriveThru's templates?
Would such people charge per page or word count or time? Going to require some, I think, and am clueless as to how much to offer?
Thanks for any help
John

My guess it's the specific target number and the submission is expected to be as close to it as possible.
Having written for Wayward Rogues Publishing before, I'd agree with Drejk. They were well pleased when I hit the mark spot on.

I'd say it depends on skill/experience. I'd charge per page, since you're not writing the words and may have pictures on a page. I'd also break it down:
- Cost for the layout design (once off). We usually included several sketches and an allowance for much back and forth with clients in this cost.
- Cost per page (to cover how much time you need to put into each page).
This is based on my experience as a web designer and some inDesign work I outsourced. My advice is to plan well and be in dialogue with your client.

Check this post of mine from December, too. It varies based on the layout complexity, but I usually charge around $3/page for B&W layout; if I quote more than that, I tend to get rejected. Color is quite a bit more complex (namely in dealing with accurate reproduction, page backgrounds, and ink coverage limits) and I charge more when I work with it, but in my games work that's been limited to covers.
I've also worked out flat-fee agreements for funded Kickstarter projects that have a fixed budget, in which case I charge a per-page rate for extra revision passes or out-of-scope additions, and an hourly rate when I need to generate assets like page decorations. Those are rare but have worked out really well.
