adding a "new" ability to my rogue rewrite, checking for problems.

Rogues Opportunity:
Rogues Opportunity: Fortune favors the rogue whose quick enough to seize it. As a swift action, a rogue can seize on fortune’s favor, giving him a +1 luck bonus on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and weapon damage rolls. He can use this ability for a number of rounds per day equal to 4 + his Dexterity modifier. Maintaining this bonus is a free action, but it ends immediately if the rogue is killed, paralyzed, stunned, knocked unconscious, or otherwise prevented from taking a free action to maintain it each round. Rogue’s Opportunity is treated as bardic performance for the purposes of feats, abilities, effects, and the like that affect bardic performance. Like bardic performance, it cannot be maintained at the same time as other performance abilities. This bonus increases to +2 at 5th level, +3 at 11th level, and +4 at 17th level. A rogue may expend rounds of Rogues Opportunity to gain an additional use of a rogue talent that has limited uses per day.

basically its Archaeologists luck with the added benefit of being dex based and allowing additional uses of limited use rogue talents. this isn't the only changes im making(turnings rogues into a strong 5th wheel support class for homegames).

good name ideas, but the ability isn't problematic in its wording right?

i would progress it to +1/+2/+3/+4/+5 at levels 1/5/9/13/17 to account for BAB dead levels.

DX is an interesting choice. Then again Uncanny Dodge incentivizes the ability score per CRB.

Want to add fun to it? Let the rogue activate it as part of an initiative check boosting that roll as well.

thats certainly a fun way to work it. will be tweaking this some more. See i plan i restructuring the rogue as more of an opportunist jack of all trades(using the vicious opportunist rules as well).

i think it is important that the rogue not only be able to take advantage of opportunities, but be able to create them herself, otherwise you end up replicating one of the main limitations of sneak attack. (you probably already know this). good luck!

Stating that it takes a free action to maintain every round makes the rest of the sentence with the long list of conditions superfluous. You also need to specify just how many rounds of this new feature are required to gain another use of an 'X/day uses' type of rogue talent. I'm guessing you intend a one round per one talent use ratio, but it's not 100% clear so I thought I'd mention it. Lastly, maybe have it apply a dodge bonus to AC as well? That'd be quite thematically appropriate for the rogue.

Overall, seems like a good idea. it gives the rogue a rather unique ability that helps patch up some shortcomings with the base class. Will look forward to more.

for expended rogue talents, maybe 1 round for the 1st re-use, 2 rounds for the 2nd re-use, 3 rounds for the 3rd re-use...
