I lovingly crafted an item that was beautiful in every way...until about three hours before the deadline for submission, when I realized an embarrassingly simple reason it wouldn't work. Whoops.
So, with the clock ticking ever quick and quicker, I threw something together. And to my surprise, I loved it even more. I ended up submitting it with four whole minutes to spare.
And then, two hours later, I noticed a mistake in my writing--one that both of my proofreaders missed. It doesn't ruin the item or mess with its mechanics, but it's something that I know will cause at least a *little* confusion and cost some votes.
But even with all that, I know it's a solid item. And I love it.

I am quite happy with my item, most of my friends said wow, and were quite enthusiastic about it, and I got some advice from some experienced superstar contestants that helped develop it and tighten the wording up quite a bit. I also know though that getting into the top 32 or even the top 100 will be a battle, excited to start voting in a few hours!

I'm not happy with my item, it's horrible. No one should vote for it! You'll know which one is mine when you see it, it's that one. Don't vote for it. It's even worse than 137ben's Sword of Sundering Sean K Reynold's Sword of Killing People Who Submit Copies of Sean K Reynold's Sword of Killing Hitler!

Thought my item was the third I saw
But it was another with a similar theme.Horror froze me as would a ghoul's claw:
Did I channel this year's meme?

I made a silly rules assumption that turned out not to be correct, as pointed out by one helpful and friendly reviewer--and then didn't have time to fix it! I kind of panicked and submitted anyway before running off to yet another meeting.
I'm not thrilled with my implementation and would have liked to have had more time, but then I started voting and... well, I actually feel okay about it now. I have the rules templating issue, one aspect I'd remove, and one note I'd add. My mistake probably makes it not-RPGSS-material, but the concept is solidly fun, and I'm okay with that. And I feel like it's still as good as or better than the stuff I'm voting on, so maybe I have a shot? Or maybe that's just my bias and I'm doomed. I can't decide!

I basically sat 10 hours straight until 7 AM making my item, and submitted it in a sort of sleep-deprived craziness. This was days before the deadline. I don't know what I was thinking.
I was pretty hard on it at first, but after voting for a while I'm thinking it's not too shabby! :)
If it does get in, then that will be the kick in the pants I need to play smarter.

Last year I spent several days on my item. This year I took 30 minutes to review my notes about what did and did not work about it... then limited myself to an hour to brainstorm and document this one. Finished in 45 minutes. I told myself that if I limited my investment this way, I wouldn't obsess about the voting.
That was a fail... but I am happy with the item. I think I have received several positive remarks about it so far (if I am inferring correctly)... so overall I am happy and hopeful.

There is an error I discovered within ten minutes of hitting the submit button. It's not huge, but for some people it would be enough to down vote. Still, I like my item and will like to hear what people think of it when this round is finished! :)

When I encountered my item in voting I noticed a non-template formatting error. Across voting for other items, I realized I had failed at another non-template formatting standard. Across reading complaints in the So Far thread, I've realized at least two more adaptations I would make. But, among the implied comments, ones which may apply to my item generally note they voted for it in spite of itself.
I'm happy with my item. I'm happier with the competition.

I took a big gamble with my item. My backup items would have been safer, and my runner up was risky but well received. However, I believe I chose well. I still favor my choice and I think that those who take the time to read it and understand it fully will appreciate the time and effort that I put into it.

Just saw mine!
I still like the core idea. It's nothing very complicated, but so far there isn't anything that occupies a glaringly similar design space. And it's perfectly formatted, thank God.
That said, in terms of the actual write-up, I really really wish I'd gone over some of the forum tips before I submitted.

I still like my item, outside of a fairly large error.
But I have no idea what other people will think of it. Still.
I know what you mean. I found a mistake on my own a couple of hours after the submission deadline, and my fiance just informed me of a second (albeit minor) error this evening. She thought it was the only I had been referring to all along. =\
Still, though, I like it well enough.

After the horrible mangling of formatting that happened to my submission last year, I'm definitely much happier this year.
Is it a good item? I think so. I haven't seen or heard of any items that do something similar to how it functions, so there is at least some hope that it is doing something new/different/intriguing.
I haven't seen it yet. However, I'm trying to remain hopeful. If I understand how the algorithm for presenting items works, not seeing it probably means that it has drifted towards one of the ends of the spectrum in popularity. Hopefully a good sign.

I'm happy with my item, though I didn't realize when I wrote it how it would be displayed (1st year rookie), so it looks like a wall of text to me. I also capitalized my construction spell names because it irritates me not to, proper formatting or not, but it seems that even that might cost me votes, so I don't know how I feel.

After seeing as many items as I have at this point, I still like my item-- I think it's solid, clean, and functional-- but I don't like it to place in the top 32. It's a useful but somewhat pedestrian magic item, I think-- not really Superstar material, lacking that certain 'wow' factor.
That said, I've seen very, very few items that HAVE given me the 'wow' factor, so. Who knows?

I concur. In my opinion my item is not in a "wow!" cathegory too, more like "yes, of course!" kind of item. But I have seen only few items I can define as "well done!" or "not so bad!". So I still have hope.

Personally, I'm voting for creativity over things like 'WOW, that is so powerful and awesome'. Probably not the only one, so your solid entry may be doing better than you think.

I wish there was a half-time to make minor edits to our entries.
Pretty sure I coulda made Top 32 if I could fix some flaws that are apparent to me after a few hours of voting.
That's one of the best part about the public voting. You get to learn a lot of the mistakes that you may have made and you get to see examples of really well designed items. The next step is to take part in the critique my item thread, then the blazing 9 thread. Welcome to the party!
