I don’t quite how it happened but I’m involved in three online games (not PbP), and an actual RL game. Technology is getting really good for remote gaming

What tools are the games using, and how well does each one work (500 words or fewer).

I was fairly stereotypical in the childhood diseases regard. Got the usual colds, minor flu, etc. here and there. Chicken pox in 4th grade, so age 9. Dunno if I got it at school and gave it to my brother (then 7) or he got it and gave it to me, but we came down with it at the same time, then gave it to our sister (then 3) after we were getting over it.

Far worse than that, IMO, was when I got pneumonia in 8th grade. I was utterly incapable of moving much for an entire week, and only vaguely remember shuffling to the bathroom from time to time, having to lay on the floor while my mom pounded on my back for 30 minutes twice a day to break up the fluid in my lungs, and a lot of sleeping and generally feeling miserable. I pretty much lived on the living room couch that week, wrapped in sheets and drifting in and out of sleep.

you live in hell, temperature-wise, how did you get pneumonia?

Three cheers for the Monkey!

And yes, how are you doing that? ;)

If you think where I live now has hellish temperatures, this was when I was growing up. Meaning I as in southern TEXAS, not in Tennessee. I didn't move here until after college.

I don't know how I got it. I just came home sick from school one day and went to the doctor, was told I had pneumonia, and spent the next week and change getting over it.

HEY! They're bringing the Clone Wars back!

Oh NOW you notice John...

Seriously though I think I might need to write to one of my clients an apology because I was a little...snippy about getting paid this week.

That and I need to deposit more money so I can get Mom to take me SOMEWHERE (or else online) to buy myself a new laptop before August 5th.

I saw that the other day. What a terrible time to not be able to afford television.

It's not everyday that I bounce around on Youtube, Tom.

I saw it. I'll pass until they get Genny's version back.

Also I want a reboot of the newer version of Thundercats on Netflix.

About to go home. Good night, everyone.

I’m on Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds

Both have:
Interactive maps with tokens
Accessible character sheets with links to items/spells
Auto computations of rolls
Dice rolling
Preset module ‘packages’ you can buy (like the 5e Strahd game I’m going thru ATM)

I find Fantasy Grounds’ interface a bit better graphics-wise, but not so much as I’d recommend it over Roll20. Both are equally good.

One great complimentary app to these two is Discord. This is a free voice talk platform with a built-in text chat and can be expanded to include a dice-rolling feature. The nice thing is there is a mobile version, so if you need to go AFK (like to walk an insistent pooch) you can follow along with the gameplay on your smartphone.

I have an empty nest, and I now work a job that ends at predictable times and gives me the weekend off EVERY weekend. Quality of life is a wonderful thing. Now I just need my raise and I’ll be good....

Hey, how is your little lad doing? Has he adjusted to urban life? Still feeling OK?

You are most welcome! I’ll keep you posted if I ever get a game of my own going.

Wilbur’s doing ok. I fortunately live in Alexandria, in a more ‘suburban’ setting. An apartment complex, but with lots of walking area. Alexandria is a very dog-friendly town. It’s nice not to have to search all around for living space that accepts pets. As for feeling ok, I think he’s doing pretty well for 12. He’s getting older and frailer, but who isn’t? I’m glad to have his company

Oh and the best feature of all? If you are just a player, they’re both free. That’s an easy win right there

Okay am I the only one that LIKED the Will Friedle Thundercats reboot???

Night unicorn, an evil unicorn.

Oh, that's good stuff!

Very cool!

Actually, I vaguely recall joining Fantasy Grounds, Way back pre-katrina, so of course I dont have that login info anymore. :P

My teenage son uses Discord to chat with his friends while they play various video games. (Pretty amusing to peek into his room when he is all noisy, and see him wearing his big/full headset OVER his PS4 VR headset.)
;P

Updated!

Weird weekend. Every game I was supposed to play in cratered. Ah well

I dislike Thundercats in general, so the question is fairly irrelevant to me

Didn't watch it, and didn't really watch the original either.

Drejk wrote:

Minor spelling error: "willy" is either a name or a slang term. "Wily" is the term you're probably wanting, meaning "sly and cunning".

I enjoyed both. The newer one was more "grown up", sort of.

I love thundercats. Still have the shirt somewhere. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcast is amazingly good. I am listening to Blueprint for Armageddon. It is about World War One. I highly recommend it.

Thanks. My recall of that word's spelling must have been influenced by "will".

I always liked Thundercats.

The original was ok in a campy-fun-80's way. At least it was better than GI Joe, (all of those experts, on both sides of the law, and NOBODY could hit the broad side of a barn!) ;P

I enjoyed the Thundercats reboot. A little actual character development, as opposed to the original 30-min toy commercial. :)

Come on, admit it, who DOESN'T want a magic sword that turns from a dagger/shortsword into a full size sword with a battle cry!?

(Come on,... show of hands. Who here has, at least ONCE, held up one hand over their head and said 'Thundercats, HO!' or, 'By the power of Greyskull!'?) :)

<Wizard raises hand.>

I never saw the Thundercats reboot, though I did like the updated He-Man from a few years ago.

Back in the 1e days I got to play in an adventure where our characters got shunted into the realm of the Thundercats. We were playing evil characters who had been sent to aid Mum-Ra in destroying them. My character boiled Snarf alive.

That. Is,... Beautiful. ;)

(Come on, whether you liked the show or not, Snarf was the MOST annoying character ever!) ;P

On the other hand, I think I missed the He-Man Reboot. :(
(Or if I DID see any of them, I've forgotten)
Have to see if I can find it online somewhere,... Just to check it out.

It's the one that has Will Freidle as Lion-O.

Also thank you to the rest even if I disagree Orthos. You should watch at least ONCE if only because it's better way to say "I watched it."

I get the sentiment, but there is literally not enough time in the world for me to do so with everything that anyone has told me I need to watch "if only to say I've watched it". The list is just too long.

This is why you need to retire, Orthos.

I'm only 33! Also there is no way I have retirement kind of money.

Sokay I'm 41 and I don't have any chance of retiring before 2075... Unless someone invents cloning and I get some clone or Iron Man armor...or else Doctor Doom's Time Platform...

Thomas, I haven't seen you say in awhile, but how's your hand doing?

Yeah, how is it healing?

Left hand is tender when I use it to steer the car, but otherwise is fine. Right now most my aches and pains are in my right forearm, but that might be from sleeping on it...because the dog won't let me get comfortable when he wants to sleep on my bed. :p

Right hand is also fine.

I am glad that you are feeling better, Thomas.

I understand the retirement troubles.

Dont feel bad! I'm 52, and at this rate I can retire in,...

Whelp, at this current rate, I'll NEVER be able to afford to retire. :/

Good thing I (Usually) like my job, isn't it?
;P

Retire? Is that something to eat?

Lol. $87 to my name (plus ~$2,000 in retirement funds)

My guess is that 'retire' will become a euphemism for the deception leading us old farts into a Soylent Green processing center.
