The main advantage I had for this Character was that I had two GM credits for a 1st level character on this tac before. For Slow progression. It allowed me to build more freely and gave me an advantage on what Implements I may or may not have wanted. It also got me thinking, that with enough prep time before combat I could give my Necromantic Servant(s) weapons I already had on hand. But opted out of doing this because it became clear to me I had no idea how to play a Necromancer.
First Encounter: four humanoids and a guy bleeding from the eyes. I rolled low on initiative. So by the time I was able to go one of them closed in pretty close. Due to the Necromantic Servant not having a range limit expressed in the description. I simply Summoned one from the ground adjacent to me, between me and the enemy that closed in on me. The Skeley 5ft, then 2 clawed hitting for 9 damage total. That particular enemy died before he could act again. I then Proceeded to go for the guy bleeding from the eyes. Giving the rouge a flanking partner. After A round or two the rouge takes him down and the remaining two other guys stopped fighting.
After this we explored a little bit and found a 'Passage' into a underground ruin or dungeon. Since my skeley was still around for 7 minutes we used him as a 'Trap Finder'. This cost him his unlife as he fell prey to a trap and died(again).
Second Encounter: one weird animal thingy. I summoned a new skeleton to fight, he was lovingly named Yorick. Yorick moved to attack and missed. Encounter ended when the barbarian(one of them at least) hit the monster once.
Yorick took up his former compatriots role as Trap Finder. Before entering the next room for reasons unbeknownst to me I summoned a second skeleton. I have reason to believe that it was because I realized the simple fact that I could. Both Skeletons entered the room fisrt and combat began after discovering a mass of whirling flesh.
Third Encounter: four Ghouls, and two unidentified creatures that exploded upon death(yeah sorry for the spoilers). The new skeley charged the closest Ghoul, on the right, and hit for 5 damage. Yorick moved to the left of the room after the other ghoul but was unable to charge. The next Round I moved into the room drawing a Crossbow and loading it. Yorick and the other one attacked. Yorick hit with both claws for 8 damage total. The other was destroyed but I brought it back after spending a point of Mental Focus to bring him back, after which almost immediately, He was slain again by one of the unknown creatures multiple attack it had in that round. The following round Yorick caused the explosion of the final unknown and we proceeded to tear at the swirling fleshy thing in the middle of the back of the room.
Once destroyed, apparently, we explored the rest of the ruins. Finding more of those Unknown creatures and a 'Woman' stitting on a throne. of which we could not negotiate with due to one of the Barbarians charging and killing one of the Unkown creatures before we could even act.
Final Encounter: I summon a second Undead to replace the one that had fallen and proceeded to send them after the Woman and the one remaining Unknown. Helping the Rouge flank with Yorick and the other new one charging the Woman missing, seemingly almost clawing his own face out(if it was still present). The other barbarian seemed however to rend the foul woman in two swinging downwards at the woman. Blade touching the ground. The other Unknown slain by the Rouges precision damage on the creature thanks to my Yoricks Flanking.
After I examined the chest and found much silver to be split among the group. As they had all earned their fair share of the Stuff We All Got from this exploratory mission. We Later dug out a room cut off from a prior collapse of the ruins internal structure. finding a Ghoul that just kinda, jumped, onto the barbarians Greatsword. Killing it instantly. We looted the room finding the Orb, I took extensive notes of the ruins structure and layout, Even finding a secret door leading to a door we could not possibly open, we then all left to return to the pixie.
Notes: I Like the Occultist theme. but I'm sure I built it wrong according to most people, advice would be nice. I'm building a more Necromatic servant build eventually getting Animate Dead. I had fun with it, though I was worried about my effectiveness in combat should I be caught without my Skeletons. Or the means to Summon them. My Skill point allocation seemed nearly Satisfactory until I realized how effective my Skelies where at Trap Finding. Making me regret putting points into Disable Device. Though I believe thats fine since I might need it for some locked doors or something.
Class Skills could probably use some work, but mostly the lack of Knowledge (All) for a class like the Occultist seemed kinda weird but the one picked out for it at this point make a decent amount of sense. If feel like you have to drop something like Perception or Slight of Hand. Then I would like to ask you just leave it. Having Bluff might be nice. You know since we have Disguise, but not the Bluff to maintain it.
Spell Progression for this class feels weird. I'm actually fine with it only being 6th lvl cap. Just i wish there was some way to make their progression... Faster? and Slower at the same time. Like 6th level has access to 3rd level then 4th level spells at 9. Though I know that makes its spell progression uneven. Its hard to place why it feels weird.
Overall though I am pleased with the class, though some of the powers from the various implements need some fleshing out. As you saw, due to the undefined range of the Necromantic Servant I abandoned my previous interpretation of it to raise him again at a distance during the Third Encounter after I already used the focus point to Raise him during combat.
I do plan on buying armor for him but I got distracted at all the other things I had to buy as well as making sure I was properly stat'd out. Making him was a bit Challenging though, the choice of Implements was limiting, though I know you all are working on it.
