A question about Class Deck Kyra's Sword power:
If your combat check has the Sword trait, add 2 (□ 4) and the Magic (□ and Fire) trait to it.
If you check the "and Fire" box, as written, it's not optional. So if Kyra, armed with a sword, comes up against some foul thing that's immune to fire, she can't "turn it off."
Is this as intended? Or should there be a "may" in there somewhere?
Thanks!

Most similar trait-adding powers have been FAQ'd to include a "may", IIRC.
I think this is what you're talking about.

Thanks for the confirmation. Seems to me that when you choose to add an element to an existing power that did not originally have it by way of a power feat, that is when it is optional, but if it is part of the original power it has to remain?
The only thing that seems strange to me about this is that the RotR original Merisel's (as well as the CD Merisel's) power allows her to recharge for the additional 1d6, but Wu Shen's, while seemingly the same (as it requires the same scenario of being alone and has the same cost of recharging a card), requires the addition of poison, making Wu Shen's power worse in a large number of cases due to many monsters having poison immunity.

Pretty much, yes - unless a feat supplies an "or" to it. Say you had a power that said this:
"Recharge a card to add 1d6 and the Poison (* or Acid) trait to your check"Poison is default; with the feat, you'd be allowed to use Acid instead.

Not to derail this thread too much, but while Merisiel's sneak attack power is certainly more versatile than Wu Shen's that doesn't necessarily make Wu Shen a worse character.
Remember that Wu Shen has two things that work in her favor over Merisiel.
1. She has more weapons in her deck.
2. She has weapon as her favored card.
So, while Wu Shen won't be able to use her sneak attack as often as Merisiel, she'll be ready to fight from turn one, while Merisiel might have to waste time evading monsters until she is able to draw a weapon from her deck.
While I prefer Merisiel personally, I can see why someone would prefer Wu Shen.
