PG-13, PG, R, N -17, X, G?

I realize we are, almost, all of us adults who deal in adult issues frequently but not all want realism and jus want fun stuff. The Avengers was serious stuff with plenty of violence ,PG-13, but was not being graphic and was lighthearted despite the story. Others like to delve into darker stuff. But what's your taste? Give your average game or your highest limit below...

PS: I equate PFS material that I have played as PG with some PG-13. Early seasons.

Sovereign Court

We tend to play games of thrones-ish so I guess R.

PG13, veering into R as needed.

The game itself is probably R. The OOC banter is N-17 into EWWWW.

I would like a good hard Game of Thrones R but my group veers into more of an Avengers type PG-13.

Scarab Sages

PG-13, possibly drifting into R due to violence.

Mostly PG-13, with occasional forays into PG or R, depending on the day.

Violence - PG-13. Gore, torture, etc are avoided.

Sex - G. There is no sex in my games.

Language - X. YOU try to stop a bunch of 40+ year olds, one of whom was in the navy, from swearing.

Grand Lodge

Depends on the game but usually R

I agree with lorenlord like 100%. Language is foul and gets so much worse OOC

R because sometimes I need to proove to the PC's that bad guys are bad and you should kill them.

R.

Last game I was in was a kiddie game, and I was bored out of my mind. It was PG fest with cartoon violence. I didn't know what i was doing there and left.

My games have always had an adult story, with adult themes, and are R rated.

Silver Crusade

NR largely. My current Pathfinder game is solid R pushing NC-17 frequently. I recently ran a Vampire: the Requiem game that was solid NC-17. I have a Conspiracy X campaign I'm letting percolate that would probably be R.

Sovereign Court

rated R usually, our wizard just turned evil because of a deck of many things effect...we know that OOC but our Paladin didn't find out yet IC. We will see how that goes.

PG-13

Most I'm in are PG 13/R but one is X mostly due to a well endowed kitsune sorcerer with 20 charisma enjoying herself with multiple people, although the ranger/wizard and the barbarian certainly aren't helping matters.

Arrrrr.

You name it, I've seen it in my group. Whatever's on the far side of X.

My weekly Pathfinder game is a hard-R, veering into NC-17 territory, mainly for violence, horror, and other disturbing material. Sex does come into play from time to time.

Rated SD, for Suspension of Disbelief suggested.

Sometimes, N for Nobody. Things get... Messy. But then, most of the time it is PG to R.

Usually R though sometimes drifting to the N-17 territory.

Though OOC...it seems worse....

Depending on the game/players, PG-13 through hard R.

Most times its PG-13 until someone throws in an ill fated R.

Paizo Glitterati Robot

Removed a post. Derogatory terms for different gender identities aren't OK here.

Sovereign Court

R rated, verging into NC 17 and sometimes even dipping into X

Grand Lodge

Mine run around PG-13.

This is pretty much the same for my AD&D based games.

-
For my Post Apocalypse games it's default NC-17 due to the brutality and sheer ugliness, even the day-to-day aspects (slavery, abuse, racism, harsh actions committed in the name of...X/whatever).

-
When I run horror games (Chill, CoC) they run from a solid NC-17 to X, just by virtue that that they are usually very intertwined with the worst aspects real world true crime, cults and the predations on the weakest members of society. In other words - nothing is off limits and lines are sometimes crossed that probably shouldn't be. The players seem to like that level of "reality" horror mixed in with supernatural horror - I didn't know I was running "True Detective" before it was a thing.

That being said I need to frequently "step away" during the research and scenario design sessions for these types of games since it tends to make me both depressed and somewhat paranoid. Reading about the worst crimes humanity has to offer, coupled with a desolate supernatural mythos doesn't exactly make for a "fun time" during scenario research and setup.

PG with occasional PG-13 moments.

I am very glad I didn't come to these forums for the purposes of finding a group.

NC-17, but more out of situational comedy than actual unpleasantness.

"Golly, my intestines sure look extra purple today."

PG to R, depending on the session.

Most of us can do PG. It can be fun.

It's just that the group I am in at the moment loves graphic descriptions of carnage and uses foul language and other nasty things. Also horrible things happen to people in the setting because it is WH40K level of grimdark.

A new group I am playing FATE with is about PG-13. We're playing a 60s style space opera. It's really fun. And different.

It's always best to play with the people with the same sensibilities and likes. Good on you.

Edt: BTW, was it really necessary to try to imply that there's something wrong with those who don't run the same "rating" game you run yours?

I'm not getting the need for the drive-by attack and put down.

Mine would be PG-13 if it weren't for my gruesome descriptions of critical hits and finishing blows.

Typically R, segues into NC-17, X, and PG-13 whenever it happens.

I can play in anything though, and generally try and set the games "rating" to a general consensus.

R is primarily for the gore, violence, and as Splode says, "gruesome descriptions of critical hits and finishing blows". I'll also put depictions of cannibalism and eviscerations in R due to people's "squick" factor.

Wasn't meant to be an attack, just an observation that I appear to be in an extreme minority.

Sovereign Court

Well, you are in extreme minority amongst some 20-30 people who post here regularly. Maybe we're the minority globally.

My games would be more "adult" rated if I ever gave in and described every one of his player's character's sexual escapades in the graphic detail he wants. He asks this nearly every session. He's the only one in my long standing group who does this, and he has clearly and often said he has no respect for women so he wants me to describe his degrading them. I refuse to do this and just handwave it, to his frustration. He may end up being the first person in the 25 years of gaming with him that I have to ban from the circle because he clearly makes the the women who occasionally game with us uncomfortable.

Ah, sorry for the assumption on my part then.

For what its worth - when I ran Marvel Super Heroes it was staunchly PG-13, same for Star Frontiers since those ratings fit those games best imo. I just haven't ran those games in a very, very long time.

-
When I play though - AD&D - I am very OK with PG or PG-13 games. I don't get to play often, so deep moral dilemmas and dark stuff I can do without.

PG-13.

Me and nearly all my players are middle age with small kids. We keep the foul language to a minimum, as well as the gory and over-violent descriptions. There is sexual innuendo and adult themes, but we handle it in a mature and tasteful manner.

In other words, you're not the only alone, Orthos.

Thinking about it, my games seem to vary quite a bit between sessions. If a campaign were turned into a movie, it would probably be R due to some of the fight scenes. It isn't that we dwell on the gore, but we do describe what happens. I'm not sure there's a PG way to depict being bitten in half by an owlbear, incinerated by multiple fireballs, or the aftermath of a troll family vs ogre clan fight. Aside from that, totally PG/PG-13. Maybe LOTR PG-13? My players have a tendancy to muck around with the insides of dead enemies and allies.

Overall: PG/PG-13. With a notable exception of when we ran Carnival of Tears. That thing starts at gorefest R and heads south from there. CoT is also responsible for the kingdom's zero tolerance policy towards evil fey.

Carnival of Tears is awesome... =)

I tend towards PG-13 for many of my games, although I might have to put up an R rating for Serpent's Skull. I can tell things are going to get very dark soon once we get further into the campaign setting with lots of blood, gore, and body parts flying in every direction.

PG-13 with occasional R moments of violence, hard R for language. Some scenes get to be like the infamous F-bomb scene in Boondock Saints, due to myself and one of my players.

it varies heavily. When i mentioned running Carnival of Tears one player said she would rather miss that session. And in the S&S we have a young human psonic prostitute who deals with legit pirates. We fad it to black but the GM rolls for damage and STDs. Critical descriptions are "you sword cut half way though his chest, its messy".

We're mostly Mormons, so our games are mostly PG-13.

Language: G
Violence/Gore: PG-13
Sex: G

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Language: PG-13 to R (depends if its pirate night)
violence: PG to PG-13
Sexual content: PG or G (essentially non existent, play with my kids)

Shadow Lodge

I find most gamers are comfortable at PG-13 levels. I have no problem at play at R to NC-17 levels. Beyond that it gets too tacky.
