Dark Archive

Hi Everyone,

I am new to pathfinder society I had some questions that were not directly answered in the FAQ or easily findable on Google searches; I was hoping everyone could help me out.

I would like to run a small group of friends with pathfinder society rules; I was going to run the Introductory Scenario “In Service to Lore”.

Is this Scenario relevant or still usable for pfs and does it grant xp

Will my players get credit in their PFS games from playing in this adventure (ie. xp)

To set up the adventure as official, do I just create a PFS event
How important is it to do this before play,
How to I make sure it is closed to my group

Does every player need to register their character in pfs
Do the players have to register their characters in pfs

How important is it to have 5 vs 4 total players
The rules say in certain circumstances 4 players are acceptable, is this subjective or definitive

Thank you,
Oznof

Yes and yes. In service to lore (first steps part 1) is still relevant, and still grants xp, but you may have to change Osirion to "Scarab sages" and Cheliax to "dark archive" and alter the speech/boxed text there slightly.

For a home game not very. It might be nice to have the event code on the chronicle sheet you hand out but its not strictly necessary.

Create the event after you've played :).

If someone shows up anyway, ask them for tommorows lotto numbers.

More seriously, i think there's a box you check for private/public games. Public games go up on the game finder. We've had people see games there and wander into the shop for game night.

No, but it will make it easier for you to report their event.

No, but they need a number.

Not very until you hit level 9 or so. Then the pregen the DM runs is going to be level 7 facing level 12 opponents and.. well. Buy a spatula for them they won't live long.

Definitive. You can technically play all the way up to level 12 with a dm and three player characters. Past that you're out of luck i think.

The Exchange 3/5

Bad dog! You make somewhat obscure references to time travel but don't bother to mention the

Grand Lodge 4/5

A few additional clarifications:

Adventures form Seasons 0-3 were written with 4 PCs in mind, Season 4 and later were written with 6 PCs, with an adjustment given if there are only 4. Note that, especially early in Season 4, the adjustments don't necessarily work out that well.

In Service to Lore is a Season 3 scenario, so it was written for a group of 4 PCs, so 5 players will still be fine in it.

The session stuff is mainly for Paizo tracking popularity,m and how much money to allocate for PFS, so it is not required, just recommended. As mentioned, there is a checkbox in the event setup for Public. Uncheck it, and only the people you notify will know about it.

You can have multiple events setup, I currently have one for public play at a local game store, one for private play at my home, and a third for online games I GM.

Note: If I misunderstood your 4 vs 5 player comment, meaning you have a GM and three players, you use one of the official PFS pregens to fill that 4th spot to make a legal table. The pregens are linked on the PFS GM Resources page.
