So, welcome to what is possibly the first ever advice thread on Hunters!
I'm building mine, because a hunter combines my two favorite things: pets, and being a gnome (Favored Class Bonus is AWESOME!).
The problem is that I'm caught up on what companion I want, and I was wondering what people's experiences are with certain companions. Which are your favorites? Which are the strongest?
Just a note: I am MORE than happy to play the Verminous Hunter Archetype.

Spinosaurus is the literal strongest out of the box animal companion. It has three attacks, all primary, and an 18 Strength at first level!
If you want another fun option the Roc, giant wasp(if you want to be verminous), or dire bat will allow you to ride them and fly around the battlefield to your hearts content at level 1.

Don't know what companions the Hunter has acess to or what's PFS legal, but assuming the full Druid list, Big Cat (pounce) and Roc (Fly) are your best options by far.
As far as I know, we get the full list.
Indeed, I have heard Roc is great, but if I'm going down the flying route, I think I'll get a big flying insect.Brom the Obnoxiously Awesome |

Oh yeah, giant wasp looks great. Poison, flight, and decent stats is great. Let me take a look at spinosaurus real quick, because dinosaurs are awesome.
EDIT: Looks like I don't have the bestiary with Spinosaurus in it. Also, the beetle looks good, because it only gets medium, and with the Undersized mount feat, I can still ride it at level 1. It only has a 20 foot flight speed, but then I can still fit the little guy in caves and junk.
