Faster Alchemist Extracts

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Hello. I've had a quick search through the boards and SRD, but have yet to find something.

Is there any way to speed up the use of extracts for an alchemist? I've been thinking of making a Grenadier Alchemist who fights with a sword on the front lines, steps back to pop an extract now and then before getting back into the fray. Not optimal, I know, but that's not the point here

Also, does using an extract provoke? I would assume it does, but it doesn't say so anywhere in the extract section

Shadow Lodge

The Potion Glutton feat lets you use it quicker.

Once prepared, extracts function just like potions, so yes, I think they would provoke. Except that it is only a standard action to draw and drink.

No idea on how to speed them up though.

Accelerated drinker trait from cheliax book makes it a move action instead of a standard if you have it out, sipping jacket from UE would be another option moving instant duration potions to a swift action, good for healing potions in particular.

Depending on your GM a wrist sheath can make retrieving a potion a move action, and a spring loaded sheath a swift action. Some GM's will say a potion can't fit in one even though it is smaller than the listed items that can fit, so YMMV.

Consider the admixture vial to combine two extracts into one from UE. Action economy is tricky on alchemists!

On a side note Hybridization Funnel from UE allows you to mix two alchemical weapons together if you are looking up that at the same time.

I believe the various things that let you drink potions faster don't work for extracts.

You're pretty much stuck with trying to buff before combat when you can.

I would be interested to read ANY rule that supports this if you can find a link to it, as an alchemist player for several years I have only ever seen discussion that pretty clearly says the exact opposite. The only difference that I know of is that extracts are only good for 24 hours, and that the alchemist is the only one that can use it unless he takes the infusion discovery.

No.

Yeah, because the game treats extracts and potions differently for actions, half of the feats don't work. I'll have to run Potion Glutton by my GM though, as it doesn't state anything specifically about extracts (nor are we playing inner sea, but we usually re-fluff stuff like that)

I know I'll get into the old dilemma of "do I stab or do I buff?" every turn

Bummer, thanks for the link.
