I'm very eager to have one of my characters change from Grand Lodge to the Scarab Sages. Especially now that it is official that the faction will be led by my favorite dragon jewel sage. At what point in time will I be able to take my free faction change?
Can I do it right away?
Or do I have to wait till season 6 officially starts?
Or do I have to do it just before I play my first season 6 scenario?
(I.e.: if I'm going to play "The Paths we choose" in August, do I play that for my old faction or for my new faction?)

The Scarab Sages is not a legal faction until Season 6 starts. They've given previews of the ideals of the factions, but not the resource for them.
EDIT:Paths We Choose comes out at GenCon, so it doesn't come out until season 6 starts... I'd assume you should play it for the faction you are choosing to belong to. Also, a number of factions are no longer going to be present...as they are changing like Osirion to Scarab Sages at that point.

But it officially is a season 5 scenario (5-99), isn't it?
Just wondering whether this is maybe intended as the last scenario you are going to play with your old faction.
OK...going back through the statements of Mike in the product thread, and it does appear you play it as your OLD faction. The are supposed to limit it to no more than 3 different factions of Taldor, Cheliax, Qadira, Osirion, Szcarni or Andoran at the same table though. It will be able to be run with just a single table playing (unlike most specials) as well.

I am playing The Paths we Choose on August 14th at GenCon, as well as likely playing the same character earlier in the day in a different scenario, does the faction change take place before or after the special? Before the morning starts? Does it matter? The character in question is currently Cheliax, and is planning to stay Darkive.
I am also running several tables at GenCon, so I expect that I will be hearing the same question from players.

I truly imagine they'll address this when they release the new Guide. The Guide should be out either this Monday or the following (as that's when it's released the last couple of years at least), so it can be available for GenCon.

The faction change will be at 8:00 AM on Thursday as that is when the new scenarios (#6-1,#6-2, and #6-3) are being run.

Yep, The Paths We Choose will be for your current faction. And, I imagine you will have to select a new faction (or chose to remain with Silver Crusade or Grand Lodge) the first time you play your character after the 14th of August.
Uh, this contradicts itself. If you have to switch factions BEFORE you can play Paths then you won't be playing the old faction.
And even if there is some Aug14th specific magic that wouldn't help the vast, vast majority who will NOT be playing this Aug 14th

Ok, from my quick look through you will be able to play as your new or old faction. For those who do make the switch before playing, just let your GM know what your old faction was.
It is not recommended to have more than three old factions represented at the table. Why? Because the scenario is made up of several missions each of which take roughly 1 to 1.5 hours each. It says you may run a fourth mission if you finish early, but the players will receive no additional rewards for completing extra missions.
If there was ever a scenario that screams out for pre-mustering on the part of the players, this is it.
