Could Darth Maul be raised?

Rules Questions

Silly title, granted :)

I'm trying to figure out if Raise Dead would work on a person who has been cut in half. Raise Dead says that "While the spell closes mortal wounds and repairs lethal damage of most kinds, the body of the creature to be raised must be whole"

So, my question is: if our guy is lopped in two, ala Darth Maul, can the PCs sort of push the two halves together and claim the body is "whole"?

With both halves available, he could be Raised.

With only one half, or just some blood, you're going to need something more powerful.

Yeah, it was a fun series, but that was a tad over the top. Of course he isn't human and we don't know his anatomy exactly, but surviving without the lower half (in humans that means his organs to get rid of waste were gone, and probably destroyed along with some pretty vital other items such as the lower end of the intestines) for any length of time due to strength of will?

Found it just a tad...well...it is space fantasy...isn't it?

Well, he was a powerful space magician, so he does not really need to play by our rules.

Back to topic, I'd say he can't be raised with Raise Dead.

A body that's cut in half is not whole and will not function if the soul is forced back in.

Mechanically,(i believe RAW, but not certain) i believe that since a corpse is an object, you can Mending parts back together and then cast raise dead. Perhaps Make Whole also.

A body cut into X pieces has X wounds that are all closed by the spell. So basically during the casting the body is put together and everything is fine as long as you have 100% of the body available. If something is missing it is still missing after the completion of the spell. That can be serious if it is essential for survival.

And because Reasons, it's harder to regrow a lost limb than it is to come back from the dead.
