I'm a huge fan of Dark Shadows (the original series, not that abomination of a movie). Ive often been tempted to buy the collection, but it's only ever been on DVD. I keep hoping they'll one day put it on Bluray. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

Anyway, the other day I was in the Paulmart (as the boy calls it, for some reason), and they had a 50th anniversary DVD set. It's got six discs: one "best of" each for Barnabas, Quentin, and Angelique, one collection of fan favorites, and two collected stories of how Barnabus became a vampire and the introduction of Quentin as a ghost haunting Collinwood.

So even though it's DVD, I still picked it up. And I've been indulging. I figure it'll tide me over and give me my occasional DS fix until they wise up and put the entire series run on Bluray.

Planned on taking the kids to splash pad this morning, but is been cloudy so far. I don't think we're supposed to have a potential for rain until this afternoon, but you never know. I'd prefer a little more sun, but we'll probably still go.

I'm gonna smoke a pork loin today. I've been marinating it overnight: stout-molasses marinade. Mmmmm....

Interestingly enough, I have my son to thank for introducing me to my latest video game enjoyment: Angry Birds Epic RPG. It's fun. Maybe a little frustrating at times, but fun.

Thanks to my friend, The Monkey, I was reminded that I did not possess all the books in Time Life's Enchanted World series. In point of fact, I only have 9 of the 21 book series. This is, of course, unacceptable.

So begins my nefarious plan to fill in the gaps. First, I go old school - my next visit to Half-Priced Books shall, with luck, bring me success. After that, Amazon shall be my friend.

Scarab Sages

Incidentally, when I was originally collecting the Enchanted World, I was also collecting Mysteries of the Unknown. That was another excellent series of books. Eventually, however, I had to stop collecting both. Just a year or two back I got rid of my Mysteries of the Unknown books - a small regret.

Funny enough I did the same. I was collecting both as a teen/young adult, but then I got rid of the mysteries of the unknown series. They were fun books. I can't remember why I got rid of them. They might have been victims of my first divorce actually. My first ex-wife, the one who recently died, sold a lot of my stuff while I was in boot camp /AIT and unable to retrieve it.

Yellowbeard!

Still one of the most underrated pirate comedies ever.

My baby girl will now go about at random times and ask other members of the household if they are hobos.

Angry Birds Epic RPG - a fun adventure game, and the closest I'll probably ever get again to gaming!

Scarab Sages

At least until the next video game RPG I find that interests me.

I find I have little time for video games. I kind of miss the MMORPG experience, but nowadays it's all microtransaction cheats :/

I like the simple games that I can play with just me - no online cooperation needed. It lets me set my own pace/schedule. Plus, this Angry Birds game is one the boy plays as well, so it's a bit of a bonding exercise.

As a bonus, it's a great occupier of time when I'm pooping.

Scarab Sages

All that being said, if the option to game in person with living folk ever again becomes viable, I'll get back to it in a heartbeat.

Yeah me too.

Scarab Sages

I'm very much looking forward to tomorrow. Half day of work. A visit to the comic book store. A visit to Half-Priced Books to search for any stray Enchanted World books (before I start buying them off Amazon). Parent's Night Out - probably going to see the new Tarzan movie.

Scarab Sages

Speaking of comics - my pull list has gotten a little bit longer recently. Added several non-DC/Marvel titles, but also several DC titles (thanks to Rebirth). Marvel...not so much.

Scarab Sages

Sad thing is, I was going to pick up the new Steve Rogers Captain America title, until they pulled that agent of Hydra crap. Yes, I've heard it wasn't real, but the entire incident made me realize I really don't like the douchebag writing it.

Scarab Sages

And I was collecting Doctor Strange, but that started to suck balls.

Scarab Sages

But, hey! Moon Knight!

Scarab Sages

Happy Friday!

Scarab Sages

I've even got my baby girl saying that now. She says it to the teachers when I drop her off at daycare. Amazingly, she actually waits until it really is Friday to say it.

Scarab Sages

Saw an article the other day saying DC is doing an Adam Strange/Hawkman miniseries. SWEET!

What? Like 100+ degree hot?

To a look at voting for the ENnie's awards. They must really only want people voting who actually give a s~+~ enough to. The format is really involved - list of links for each category, then you follow the link to the list, where they have the names of the products. You have to then click on each product name to get information on it. Way too much forwards and backwards for me. I've got better things to do with my time - for example, trimming my toenails.

In the end, those awards just aren't important enough for the hassle.

WOOT!! That's awesome!

The wife and I went to see Central Intelligence last night. Not as funny as I'd hoped, considering it had Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, but it was still very entertaining. I find Johnson to be an improved version of Arnold - just as big and intimidating, but with better acting skills.

Scarab Sages

Not sure what to do this weekend, but I feel like trying to accomplish something (or things) from my To Do List. Whether that feeling turns into action, I cannot say at the moment.

I am headed for a quick nap and hopefully some lap swimming later

Scarab Sages

Did some major tripping and cutting back to two of the bushes in front of my house. They are planted next to each other and keep growing high enough to obscure the address numbers on the house. So I got out there this morning and cut them down to about half their height. Sweated my balls off, but it was worth it.

Now, I'll just have to keep trimming them back once a week, and they shouldn't get too high again. Plus, that makes at least an hour a week
I'm outside doing something.

Scarab Sages

And tomorrow, I'll probably get out there and do a bit more trimming of other plant life. I'm also going to buy a new tree trimmer.

Scarab Sages

Bagged and boarded some more comics as well. Still got a long way to go on that front, however. I'm considering ordering another comic cube (or two).

Got the swimming in, plus a good session at the gym. Kind of list motivation at that point, but I feel accomplished, considering I only got three hours sleep

Scarab Sages

Watched Battle Royale last night - such a delightfully f@#!ed up Japanese movie. I mean really f~@&ing twisted. I hear the novel it's based on is just as messed up.

Scarab Sages

Happy f!$*balls! Finally got a bit of rain. Sadly it only lasted about 10 minutes or so.

Scarab Sages

The children seem determined to push their luck this evening. Thankfully, I now have a new "weapon" to use against the boy in the discipline war - we bought him his own kindle, which can easily be taken away.

Scarab Sages

Caught the 1950s War of the Worlds on last night. Such a classic flick. The special effects are dated, of course, but that doesn't make the film any less enjoyable.

Scarab Sages

Also enjoyed a new (to me) beer - Black Betty. It was a stout, aged in whiskey barrels. That seems to be a thing now.

Scarab Sages

The first beer I had along those lines was from Abita, a year or two back. Except that one was aged in bourbon barrels.

Scarab Sages

And then I was channel surfing and caught on one of the sex scenes in that Fifty Shades Tie Me Up movie. That chick is yummy. So I left the movie on, then promptly fell asleep on the sofa.

Scarab Sages

I saw that the new Ghostbusters movie underperformed at the box office. It was beaten by an animated movie in its second week. Personally, I find that awesome. I keep hoping Hollywood will get it through its collective head that pointless, badly done remakes/reboots are a stupid idea.

That's not to say all remakes are bad. The new Planet of the Apes film series has been excellent so far. Way better than the Tim Burton one.

Scarab Sages

"All the Baldwins are dead?!?"

I haven't seen the new Ghostbusters movie yet.
I actually think that I will enjoy it, all the clips I see with the new actresses are funny.
Is it supposed to be a follow-up to the original? Or a re-boot?
I'm cool with a 'new generation' ghostbusters thing, but endless remakes are beginning to annoy me. ;P (How many batman/spiderman origin movies do we need?!?) ;P

I DID get to see the new Tarzan with my wife last week. I liked it.
But I'm a fan of the old school tarzan movies (and original books) so it would have to be pretty bad for me not to enjoy it at least a little. It was an enjoyable adventure in the world of Tarzan.

Minor spoiler:

Spoiler:

(Meaning, no way were some of those swinging tricks even remotely realistically achievable, no matter how strong your arms are, but they were he!!a fun to watch!

Hopefully I'll be able to go out and see some more movies IN the theaters before kids school starts back up again.

Scarab Sages

Well, today could have gone better.

Scarab Sages

Some mornings I wake up and find my lack of faith in humanity to be completely justified.
