Although, to be honest, I wasn’t too worried about driving in that weather. I’ve driven in much worse.

Scarab Sages

And my coworker who had his gall bladder out…turns out it ruptured on him. So they had no choice but to cut it out right away.

Scarab Sages

Happy Tuesday?!?

Scarab Sages

Well, I didn't have to get up, get ready in the cold, and drive to work. So I suppose that's good.

On the other hand, the only reason I didn't have to do all that is because the office is closed due to horrible winter weather. There is snow on the ground. Not much, but we don't need a whole lot to F things up around here.

Scarab Sages

Plus, yesterday ended up being a much longer day than I had expected. I'm still tired from it all.

Scarab Sages

I was at work about 45 minutes longer than usual, finishing up some work that needed to be done by CoB. The drive home wasn't too bad, since traffic was very light. Then I got home and immediately went back out to get some gasoline in the cans for the generator. Just in case.

Scarab Sages

I've already been outside with the dog, albeit briefly. According to my phone app, it's 27 degF, but feels like 16. Stupid windchill. Took some pictures for posterity.

Scarab Sages

The same phone app says the snow has stopped but is expected to start up again. Meh. So far, I don't think we have even an inch. At this rate, we'll barely have anything within a day or so.

Scarab Sages

I was promised 3-5 inches and got way less. I feel cheated.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

That's what she said.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, I'm not exactly sure if anyone else is even going to be working today. Or what needs to be accomplished. Everything kind of went up in the air with the office closure.

Scarab Sages

Well, so far only one other coworker is actually online. I'll give it a bit to see if anyone else pops up.

Scarab Sages

In the meantime, I can get myself a second cup of coffee and work on fixing cleaning up the BoM I checked yesterday.

Scarab Sages

That BoM check was...unfun.

Typically, I've been able to check a PDF of the Isometric drawings versus the BoM (Bill of Materials). The way we usually do ISOs lets me search them for the text from items on the BOM. That makes it easy.

However, since we're using the ISO style from the Terminals group now, I can't search the PDFs for text. So I have to print them all out and go through them page by page with a highlighter. It takes considerably longer.

Scarab Sages

And I wasn't surprised to find mistakes. This particular project has turned into a real clusterf#$k. IT is partly to blame, as the designer's computer keeps having issues (his isn't the first). The other part of blame goes to the merger of our group with the Terminals group, and all the headaches of trying to bring together different ways of doing things.

Scarab Sages

Oooh....now there's three people online. Still, only three? Bunch a lazy bums.

Scarab Sages

I had forgotten how much I loathed cleaning snow off vehicles. Especially when you no longer have the best tools for the job.

On the plus side, the boy also now knows how much it sucks.

Scarab Sages

Then I let him wander off down the street to find the other neighborhood kids. He's pretty sure he saw one of his friends from school wandering down that way.

Scarab Sages

He's well bundled, though. Including a base layer of thermal pants. And he put his rubber boots on over his thermal socks.

Scarab Sages

Personally, I still don't understand why anyone considers snow something for recreational use. Even to ski. It just makes no sense.

Perhaps it's because I never experienced it growing up. My first real experience with snow wasn't until my very late 20s.

Scarab Sages

I've managed to get some stuff done with work. There are enough people online now that we can make a go of accomplishing things.

Scarab Sages

Ugh. And now I'm pretty sure I strained something cleaning the snow off the vehicles. Stupid snow. Stupid Winter. Stupid old man body.

Scarab Sages

My 85 year old mother played a joke on my eldest brother. He called to check on her, and she told him she had just come inside from making snow angels. He freaked out a bit, thinking she might have actually done that after spending time in the hospital over the weekend (for her diverticulitis).

Scarab Sages

I say "Good on her". That uptight turd needs to lighten up a bit. He's way too serious.

Scarab Sages

The sun popped out enough to get some of this damned snow melting. Huzzah!

Scarab Sages

The office will be open tomorrow, but they're leaving it up to us whether we want to risk the roads to come in. I'll probably go.

Scarab Sages

Happy Wednesday!!

Scarab Sages

Cold Wednesday, that's for sure. My phone app says it's currently 19 degF, but feels like 17 degF. Brrr....

Scarab Sages

Of course, I'm in the office. So far, I'm the only one. I know at least a handful who won't be coming here. Some with kids still out of school. Some who live just far enough away they don't want to risk the roads. I can understand that.

I'm only 10 miles away. I barely have to cross any bridges, maybe a few overpasses. So I wasn't too worried.

Scarab Sages

Didn't see a lot of people on the road, either. Still managed to catch some lights. Overall, though, the drive in was quick and quiet.

Scarab Sages

Henceforth, I shall call this The Great Southern Snowpocalypse of 2025.

Scarab Sages

Speaking to my mother yesterday, and my wife to her sister, it looks like the New Orleans area got more snow than we did. I'm a little jealous.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, not sure what's going on here in the office today. Not even sure how many folks are going to bother driving in. If I end up being the only one here, I can jam to some tunes on my phone without bothering to use the earbuds. That'd be nice.

Scarab Sages

I do know at least one of my coworkers lives really close to the office. Closer than I do. He might come in. It depends on his wife. She's a nurse, so might be on duty. Then he'd have to stay home with their kids.

Scarab Sages

Ye gods! Some other people finally showed up. There goes my party time.

Scarab Sages

The third level of the office parking garage still has a nice, even, undisturbed blanket of snow. I suspect it will remain that way until the sun melts it. We don't usually get a lot of people parking up there.

Scarab Sages

I see two of my coworkers are online. They must have stayed home. Weak.

Scarab Sages

Not sure if my supervisor is going to be in the office today. He's got small kids, so might have to remain at home to work.

Scarab Sages

The only bummer part is I haven't seen the snack lady yet. Not sure if she's going to make it in. Hopefully so. I only have one extra snack stored in my desk.

Scarab Sages

One of the other guys told me to dudes from a client company are going to be back in our office today. So I suppose I'll have to act in at least a semiprofessional manner.

Damnit.

Scarab Sages

Happy Thursday?!?

Scarab Sages

Well, I'm sure someone will have a happy day. Maybe not me, but someone. This weather has really got me drained. Still, I had a good drive in to work, despite the best efforts of some idiot who is also a denizen of my subdivision. And several school buses trying their best to clog up the road.

Scarab Sages

I do have some work ahead of me. At least a little. Not sure if it'll be enough to keep me from being bored today.

Scarab Sages

Another coworker and I had planned on doing lunch today, but then yesterday he found out he had to go down to Corpus Christi to finally do that site visit we've been talking about. He's taking my supervisor with him, as the I&E Engineer on the project. So that's two boss type people out of the office.

Scarab Sages

And just when everyone is finally supposed to be back in.

Scarab Sages

Another coworker, one of my mechanical designers, worked from home on Monday. He claimed he was worried about the roads. I think it was more likely he's a bit pissy the Terminals mechanical designer has been made the lead of all the mechanical designers and is making changes to how we do things. Other people are thinking the same thing.

The big boss was pissed he wasn't in on Monday, so if he's not in today that could be a problem.

Scarab Sages

It's his own fault really. He had a chance to take the lead, but didn't want it. Now someone else has it, and is doing things differently (and probably better, to be honest).

Scarab Sages

Anyway, since my buddy is going to be out of the office, I had to secure my own lunch. Luckily, we still had some leftover stew at the house. It's beef stew, with carrots and potatoes. I try to not eat any of the beef, however. I've been cutting back in red meat the last few years. It's been surprisingly easy.

Scarab Sages

Some good news: I received an email notification the New Mexico PE stamp I ordered has been delivered.

Huzzah!

Scarab Sages

Some bad news: My wife now needs a new winter coat because the dog ate her old one.

Stupid, a-hole dog.
