So much for good news…..
Those complete and utter idiots at the Paragon of Incompetence that is the USPS appear to have delivered my order to the wrong address.
Instead of coming to my home IN TEXAS, it was delivered to somewhere in COWPENS, SOUTH CAROLINA. How do you screw up something that badly?
What am I saying? It’s the USPS. Of course they screwed it up that badly.
I would call them “damned idiots”, but that would be an insult to idiots everywhere.
So I’ve reached out to the company I purchased the stamp from, and told them if they can’t deliver my order, I expect a full refund.
If they don’t give me one or the other, I’ll dispute the charge and hopefully get the refund anyway. Either way, I’ll never order anything from the company again.
The weather still has me feeling blah, but at least I didn't have to drive to work this morning. Huzzah for Work from Home Days!
Speaking of Work from Home....
The dude they were looking at as the new Lead Mechanical Engineer fell through. He wanted too many Work from Home day. If they had given those days to him, they'd have to give them to others. That would be too disruptive.
Not to mention lazy.
We're Texas. We're not California. Or the federal government. We don't do lazy.
Speaking of both weather and Texas....
Most of the snow is gone from around here. So it's back to business as usual. Hell, as previously noted, several of us were back in the office the day after the "vicious snow storm". There was at least one dude who was super wimpy and didn't even come in Monday, but he's a damned lefty pinko commie, so what would you expect.
So even the snow was too afraid of the awesomeness of Texas to stick around long.
I remember hating Louisiana. The only thing it had going for it, from my perspective, was my family. With modern technology, keeping in touch with them when I wanted to was easy. So I got the hell out of there when I could. Why stick around someplace you hate, just to whine like a child about it?
It was much the same, eventually, with Pennsylvania. Although there were still aspects of living up there I liked. I ultimately left and settled here.
If I ever find enough things to dislike about living in Texas, I'll just get the hell out. I don't see that happening anytime soon though. It's too awesome here.
Except the armadillos. F$%k those little turds.
One of these days I'm going to make a pilgrimage to Cross Plains Texas, to the Robert E. Howard Museum. Yet another gift to the world of the great state of Texas.
Enough about that though. I don't expect to be too busy today. Overall, it's been a relatively quiet week. I am eagerly waiting to hear about my boss and my buddy and their trip yesterday to Corpus Christi. It might get some things moving on the project.
Hopefully, with me being home today, the dog will be better behaved. Yesterday she destroyed the wife's winter coat. She had that coat for a long time...
Ugh. With the wife's coat out of commission, I had to be the one to wait with our daughter at the bus stop. It's cold out there. Luckily, I had my own warm coat and a cup of hot coffee.
We were thinking about Wacky Mongolian for lunch, but then I had a meeting set for 11 am and the wife was feeling really tired. So after my meeting I did my usual run to the cleaners, then picked us up something to eat.
In other news, the a-hole dog snagged wooden spatula as soon as I left, then proceeded to destroy it. So she's doing time in her kennel. She's been in there for about 45 minutes, and I plan to leave her in there for a few more hours.
It's kind of a pretty day, though. Plenty of sunshine. Temperature is still lower than I'd like, hovering in the mid-50s, but that's better than earlier this week.
I suppose. I've come to believe the feeling of meh I thought was just from the very cold weather (and maybe difficulty sleeping) was in fact some kind of mild bug. Along with the blah feeling, I've been coughing a bit more than is usual. And so my voice is a bit rough.
Yet another reason why winter sucks balls and should be outlawed for the vile threat to human life it always has been.
Plus, spring and summer at least give us bikinis.
Anyway, it's looking to be a gloomy day here. Very cloudy. Very opposite of what we had yesterday. Temps should be about the same though. Currently it's hovering just under 40 degF. We're supposed to have a high in the low 60s. At least there isn't supposed to be rain. That's supposed to come tomorrow.
One of the boy's friends is celebrating a birthday this weekend. So the boy is going to go hang with that friend and some others for the day, then spend the night over at the birthday friend's house. He's still going to come help me at the grocery store though. While we're there, I'll help him pick out a gift card for his buddy.
The girl has her usual art class today. Nothing more than that. Though she usually has lots of fun at those things.
As for me...there's the usual. Grocery store. Comic book store. Laundry. I was debating visiting REI to purchase a fleece jacket for the wife. Since the dog ate her good winter coat, she's been stealing my fleece jacket, and saying how much she likes it.
Work yesterday was, as expected, not very busy. Which is fine by me. Next week will be a bit more interesting. I've got at least two days I'll have to take some time off - Thursday and Friday. Thursday I've got a dental appointment (probably a cleaning) and a cardiologist appointment (pretty sure that's the stress test). Friday I've got another cardiologist appointment. Might be one of my Ultrasound tests. Or more than one.
Anyway, I think I've got just enough time to get a little mapping done while the space heater works its magic in the bathroom. Then it'll be time to shower and get a move on.
Despite still feeling blah and the weather being gloomy (with some rain mixed in), I'm still going to roll with the "happy" part. It's better to wish happiness on others. More positive for the soul.
Except that guy...

F$#k that a-hole. May a thousand rabid fleas infest his testicles.
I was lamenting the messiness of our dinner table, and telling the wife the children need to clean their spots. Suddenly, I recalled that somewhere on the table was my letter for vehicle registration renewal. I found it, but then recalled that I still need an emissions test. Not a safety inspection, though. They've apparently done away with that.
Anyway, while searching for the renewal letter, I also found a medical bill I needed to pay. It was for lab work done over at Quest Diagnostics. Thankfully, it's currently looking like I'll never have to use those a-holes again. Their scheduling system sucks and it takes forever to get an appointment.
I mentioned to the wife about the two of us taking the dog upstairs, and all three of us waking the girl up. I said we should wait until 9:00 am though, just to give her a bit more sleep time. Unfortunately, she came down a few minutes later.
Foiled again!
It's going to be a busy day today. I don't know if I'll get everything done that needs doing.
Things to do:
-Shower and shave
-Pick up the boy from his friend's house
-The remaining laundry
-Wash some dishes
-Chicken to marinade for dinner
-Transferring files to a separate drive
-Make a file of all our book-marked and saved websites
-Disconnect the old computer
-Set up the new computer
At some point, I might also get a new monitor to go with the new computer. Some of my coworkers have those cool curved monitors, and I was thinking I might like one of those.
I'd also like to get a new computer desk, but I might wait until later. I want to find one that's just right.
Those things can, theoretically, wait. I don't need them to get the new computer up and running.
Somewhere in all that, I'd also love to read through some old back issues, then bag and board them in my new mylar bags. Not sure if I'll have time for that today.
The good news is I accomplished 5 out of 8 items from my earlier list.
The bad news being I had to check back on here to see what was on the list. And realize I forgot to put some stuff on said list (which I somehow remembered to do anyway).
Now it’s time to delve into the new computer box and see what we’ve got.
I think my boy is finally done with his selection of a pathway for high school. Not sure about other Texas schools, but here in Houston they offered something like 57 different paths.
I was kind of hoping he’d follow mom and dad down the engineering route. The high schools here have an awesome program for that. It’s what my nephew did, and he’s studying engineering in college now.
I think the boy settled on something with computers and video development.
There was a surveying pathway that looked really cool, but I think it was being offered at a different high school. The boy wasn’t much interested in that one anyway.
Not for me, I think. It's miserable weather. I still feel very meh. And I'm back in the office for another week.
Still, I did have a mostly decent drive to work. So who knows? Perhaps the Universe will begin to have some small measure of mercy towards me.
Or it'll lull me into a false sense of security before dropping a proverbial ton of bricks on my life.
I'm not sure how busy the week is going to be. Possibly very. I believe we've got at least one package that's supposed to go out IFC by Thursday or Friday. Considering I'll be on PTO for part of those days, that could make today through Wednesday very busy.
