Spicing up Battlebliss (Spoilers)

Wrath of the Righteous

I'm about to start book 4 and I really want to make Battlebliss more than a one and done. I'm thinking 3 matches prior to Gelderfang one after the other. What I was thinking was a set of demons, then daemons, and then a st of captured devils. Has anyone given something like this a go?

I was going to do this as well to avoid the one fight per day problem. I was going to go more fights vs mythic animals or monsters though. And then possibly throw Minagho into the mix afterwards as well.

Yeah minagho and nezerrius are on the table if they don't come across them earlier. I thought about the mythic menagerie but I'm not sure how exactly to gauge my own creations.

10 years after this was first posted, I'm getting ready to run Battlebliss neet week.

The party consists of a Divine Defender Guardian Paladin, a Tetori Champion Monk, an Order of the Paw Marshal Cavalier, a Trickster bard, and a Life Mystery Hierophant Oracle.

The monk can grapple the heck out of people, and the Cavalier dishes out a boatload of damage. The Paladin can give everyone DR 10/adamantine and make Gelderfang deal half damage to everyone except the Paladin.

Most of the party now has means of reliable upward mobility. I have a bad feeling for Gelderfang.

Anyone have any tips for keeping the four armed king of the ring alive for a few rounds? I did give him a ring of freedom of movement, which is not as big of a jerk move as it may sound. The monk has an ability that let's him suppress freedom of movement for 1 Ki point and a swift action.

I am going to pull out PC's my players have run from prior campaigns and put them in as contestants. Most likely some evil ones from 3rd party campaign "Way of the Wicked" that I ran. And also maybe another good guy party with Pathfinder Iconics.

I was also going to run fight after fight after fight. no long rest, all magic buffs wiped out as they pass through the gate into the battle floor. a bunch of stuff to nerf the party.

I did something similar Treb - a 30 person royal rumble style event, with the PCs, some characters from prior campaigns, and NPCs I either made up or pulled from other modules. It was incredible. I went full WWE. Everyone had entrances with music, there were running feuds, I had a Jim Ross gibrileth demon doing color commentary. PC loved it.

I also came up with a few alternate rules I'll post here eventually - every time a new person entered the battle (every 3 rounds) everyone received a random buff, debuff, and an enviornmental change in the arena. The power of the buff/debuff depended on how they worked the crowd and I had rules for that as well.

It took us about 14 hours to complete it. Gelderfang was not in the original tournament. the rumble was to fight Gelderfang in a four way force cage match (so the top 3 participants). While that was happening I had that Ankou assassin come after the PCs in the stands.

Two other things I'd reccomend

1. I had Vorlesh in the stands with Hepzimiriah

2. I had them meet a team of three paladins in the pregame. They were from another prime world that was going to be destroyed due to some cataclysm and Nocticula had the artifact they needed to save their world. They all agreed to support each other and help the loser after their respective 'campaigns' ended

3. I had Vorlesh kill two of those paladins prior to the start of the tournament so there could be two surprise entrants. One was Staunton Vhane (who will have appeared four times total in my campaign. Book 2, 3, 4, and 6). The second paladin was killed and replaced with a civilian from a PCs backstory so it could add the extra dimension of trying to keep them alive and the tragedy of failing

4. The surviving paladin was invited by the PCs back to Drezen and will help them during the Battle of Drezen. But unbeknownst to them, Vorlesh will get to her while PCs are off in the ivory labyrinth. At this point in the campaign Vorlesh will seem unstoppable, and she will damn her soul to get Vorlesh's help saving her world. She will turn on the PCs when they fight Staunton Vhane towards the end of the Drezen battle, probably by killing aravashinal. It will be great. They do NOT suspect her and the betrayal of Nurah at the end of book 2 is still talked about.

I see it now, BattleBliss Arena, a row of VIP suits along the top... Vorlesh and Hepzimiriah in one. Across the arena Nocticulas Private box all blacked out, half way though maybe you see Shamira watching the event from its railing. at last fight just a hand on the railing out of the blackness... Nocticula watching?
