Galaxy's merge all the time. Most or the stars survive. The Milky Way has quite a few clusters that started as dwarf galaxy's. One of our closest stellar neighbors, an 11 billion year old red dwarf with a potentially habitable planet, is of supposed extra galactic origin.

Not likely. the planet is located so close to it's sun that the solar winds have most likely overwhelmed it's magnetic field and blown away it's atmosphere.
