Inquistors, Asmodeus, and Besmara

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Liberty's Edge

Today we are starting the Carrion Crown adventure path. I am playing an Inquisitor. My initail thought was to worship Asmodeus. I was reading through Cheliax: Empire of Devils and came across the Inquisitors there. Are they the same thing. Are Chelaxian/Asmodean Inquistors actual Inquisitors? Would it make sense for a 1st level inquistor to be an Inquisitor?

How would that work role-playing? Ideas?

My buddy got the Inner Sea Gods books. (I may have the title wrong. If so, my apologies). I came across Besmara. A pirate god! How cool is that? So I got to rethinking my character. Would Besmara have inquistors? How would they fit into Besmara's scheme of things? I mean obviously she would have clerics. (I am thinking of the Greyjoy in Game of Thrones who worshipped the Drwoned God -or whatever he was called) but what about inquisitors?

Maybe I am just not understanding the role of inquisitors. I haven't played on yet so I don't have a feel for the class and how they work in society.

Kind of rambling I know. Sorry about that.

My S&S Inquisitor (Infiltrator Archetype) is played as a recruiting/trade unionist. Ensuring all pirates are sticking to the Pirate's Code as set by Besmara, pirates get the right rum ration, food isn't too weevil filled, etc.

Personally for Carrion Crown a Pharasma Inquisitor is just ripe for RP opportunities. The AP is practically built for it.

I'd recommend the Infiltrator Archetype...

I never would have thought of that for the Besmaran inquisitor! Thanks.

"The AP is practically built for it"
What is AP?

I will look up the infiltrator archetype.

Thanks!

AP: adventure path, pharasma is a true neutral god.

Much like how barbarians aren't all mouth foaming ragers who don't speak common and live in tribes, inquisitors come in many shapes and forms. An inquisitor of Besmara could be an incredibly joyful pirate out doing pirate-y things, or could be a hunter of enemies of pirates or both since those two things are mutually exclusive. Most holy men and women of Besmara are really just pirates as far as I know.

Inquiisitors are divine casting skill monkeys with some combat skills to beat things up and bring them more up to par with other martials. I've been told they take a while to really get into the groove of things though since their abilities are spread out over the first five levels, with bane at 5th, and teamwork feats/solo tactics at 3rd.

If you're really interested in Besmara you might want to see if you can get your hands on a copy of The Wormwood Mutiny. It has a fully expanded entry about Besmara, her church, and the role of her priests laid out similar to how the 20 core gods are listed in Inner Sea Gods. Also in that book is "The Life of a Pirate" section which can help get you into the mindset of playing a Besmaran.

While Besmera has become the goddess of pirates it's important to remember that she's also the deity of Sea Monsters. Not in a motherly way like creepy Lamashtu, but more as a bullier of bullies. As an Inquisitor one of your duties could making sure monsters don't attack ships or port towns.

If you want to go all the way Pirate Inquisitor, instead of an inquisition you could take the Animal(Feather) Cleric Domain. This would let you get a Parrot(Bird) as an animal companion. Not the most powerful option, but could be fun for RPing. Also the "Eyes of the Hawk" power from Feather is pretty useful for the Perception boost.

Where would you get the feather domain from? Besmara doesn't have animal or feather(which is kind of weird for a pirate who has sea monsters as a portfolio, but most deities are derp like that.) Feather also isn't just limited to feathered creatures, you can still have a large cat or fox or an elephant or shark if you really wanted.

You can always just buy a regular parrot though too.

For something like this many DM's would likely give you some leeway on it if you argue the Pirate/Sea Monster angle. I listed Feather sub-domain simply because on an Inquisitor I'd favor Feather's Eyes of the Hawk over the baseline Speak with Animals or Fur's Predator’s Grace
