Although one would be surprised to find Elves congregating in this fringe part of the Rivers Kingdom, rumors says that their kind have settled somewhere in the western part of the Echo Woods. They call it “Taur-Im-Duinaith” or “Forest-among-the-rivers” in their tongue. There are many speculations about their presence; some say they are just a loose companionship of Forlorn Elves trying to find stable friendships among themselves; others that it’s a coterie of Elven wizards looking for artefacts of their civilization; and some more politically inclined that it’s a faction banished to this remote place by their queen following a feud in Kyonin, this theory immediately countered with the opposing view that they are an expedition sent with queen Telendia's benediction to extend the reach of Kyonin in the River Kingdoms and increase the pressure on the Seven Arches Druids.
Only one thing is certain, they stick to themselves and avoid contact with non-Elves unless dictated by trade or territory matters. Some pretend that humans or rather half-elves have been accepted in their community but it is very speculative. Some also accuse them of harboring Elves that are wanted for crimes, but on the other hand everyone recognize that they are a force for good and would not hesitate to help fight evil denizens of the forest that would otherwise threaten human settlements. Basically they would be good neighbors if not for their radical insistence that the flora and fauna of the forest be not disturbed, creating conflicts with settlements too ambitious in their gaming, foraging or timbering.
Taur-Im-Duinath is an Elven haven centered on the pursuit of Elven ethos in PFO, the political motivations of the Settlement will have to be decided among the guild members. Eventually all of those speculated above and more of them if sufficient numbers of interested people join us allows Chartered Companies with differents aims to be created.
The only requirement to join the Settlement is to have an Elven character and behave as such (Elves of Golarion PF reference book highly recommended for this purpose). Human and Half Elves (when implemented) will be able to join with an Elven backer, proper background and Elven ethos inclinations (the least requirement being that the character speaks Elvish).
There will be no alignment constraints for Elves but be aware that the game mechanism may restrict your core alignment to either NG, CG, or CN because Taur-Im-Duinath will be aligned CG.
At the beginning we would like to focus on the growth of the settlement to provide a solid base, but players will be basically free to do what they want around if they are more inclined in exploration rather than expansion or political matters, Taur-Im-Duinath is just their home and we hope will offer all player liking Elves characters to express their creativity and help build a strongly flavored Elf faction in the game.

Company #1 Name: The Order of the Unquenchable Fire
Accepted Races: Elf, Half-elf and Elf Friends
Greetings, I am BartucTheBloody and I would like to announce the Order of the Unquenchable Fire.
We are a Chaotic Good elven chartered company that is part of the Taur-im-Duinath Elven Kingdom. We are currently recruiting individuals who are interested in helping establish an elven kingdom. The Order of the Unquenchable Fire is a paramilitary organization dedicated to more clandestine pursuits. The Order pays homage to the lady in the room, our Goddess Calistria. Calistria is the Goddess of trickery, lust and revenge. The order's main focus will be exploring, patrolling, spying, assassination, and paramilitary activities. We will be the clandestine arm of the Elven kingdom of Taur-im-Duinath(Think the Blades from The Elder Scrolls Series but darker and elven). The order will also be the most likely company to accept Elf-Friends as we are always recruiting spies and agents. We are currently looking for top agents to help structure the organization and establish rules/practices.
The Taur-im-Duinath Elven kingdom will be dedicated to establishing an elf kingdom in the Riverlands and re-establishing elf culture. Each chartered company within the kingdom will get a vote on major decisions. If you are interested in joining the Order of the Unquenchable Fire or joining the elven kingdom in General contact sfrances@murraystate.edu. The kingdom of Taur-im-Duinath is also looking to absorb like minded companies and nature /eleven themed companies into our alliance.

I've added this to the Guild Recruitment & Helpful Links list alongside your previous entry. If you have a brief description you'd like to appear there to let people know about your guild while they're browsing that list, just PM me or post a clear request here. If you'd like me to remove the old entry, let me know.

Thanks as usual for your stellar indexing an scribing Nihimon, for your records, we also have a new website, we updated it on the GW Guild Index but you may not be aware of this.
I'll be watching you. My party of slackers have mostly been playing a blended-family of elves/half-elves/humans of late, butmany of us, including my main character are likely to lean lawful
I'm pretty sure that at the beginning of the EE the alignment limitations discussed on GW's blog won't be very significant because (if I have well understood) only the high tier buildings will have strong constraints. If your only hesitation comes from these alignment constraints why not give it a try and then move to another settlement should the practical implementation of alignment in game prove to be a limiting factor ?

I also reached out to our Elven brethren and explained that there could be a place and purpose for a lawful company of elves and half elves. Elven comrades unite under the banner of Taur-Im-Duinaith!
A sponsored lawful company won't be possible according to the game mechanisms as I have understood them.
That said, we can perfectly envision an NG company with LG or TN members which is sponsored and de facto giving its members access to the training and crafting features of Taur-im-Duinath.The case of Caldeathe above is a bit more tricky if several of his mates want LN. I think there is the possibility for those wanting it to use LG or TN as Core alignment and then lean more toward LN in their gameplay. At this point in the game, there is presumably no impact except having a gap between effective and core alignment (but it may change in the future) only if some feats are reserved to an LN alignment it's a serious constraint. And I'm pretty sure that we won't see these kind of constraints in EE and low-tier.
Another alternative for a group of people interested in the theme of TiD but having a buddy who insist not being an Elven-friend or having a non-compatible core alignment is to remember that not belonging to the same Company or Settlement do not preclude playing together ! There are no alignment restrictions for setting-up parties.
I think that the Alignment system as I understand it is flexible enough to not constrain RP a lot but simultaneously avoiding the opposite utter nonsense we see in other MMO where supposedly radically opposed factions live together in the same city.
Also to correct what I said above, Alignment *will* be impacting from the very beginning, my comment regarding building/facilities tier is only correct about reputation, not alignment.

So I understand a lawful company can't be chartered by a chaotic settlement but what a bout being a part of a chaotic kingdom? I also think that NG would be the way to go so that their company can have some lawful leanings. If I understand what you posted correctly, they could have a NG company with LG members right?

So I am not yet sure what I will be playing but I was thinking of one of my characters would be an Elven wizard or ranger. So I might want to join the Guild if that was cool. I would be interested to see how you guys RP in game as I think that would be interesting. Also as a side note I do not really play MMO very much.

You are very welcome Brad. I have been doing a lot of RP in the past in PnP and expect to do the same online with PFO. Since I wasn't familiar with Golarion Lore till I joined TiD, I'm presently reading "Queen of Thorns" to improve my RP, so any interested partners to put that to use are welcome, moreso if you are familiar with Golarion's Elven Lore ! I'll be RPing mostly with Nolondil as a Mage/Cleric, but will also use an alt rogue/ranger for PvPing.
You can join us on our forum and if you have not yet done so help us secure our settlement in the landrush by joining Taur-im-Duinath on GW's website (you need to log in using your GoblinWorks account and then select the Apply! button on the right of our Settlement name).
Looking forward to read you.

Welcome, Brad. We're starting to see more people saying just that, and we'll be glad to help you learn "MMO-stuff" for as long as you're willing to teach "Pathfinder-stuff". The Pathfinder Society, in particular, has had a large increase in representation in the last week or 10 days.
I have no problem with helping with Pathfinder. I don't actually play much Society play. I like playing pathfinder though just don't get to play that much due to life. That is actually why I want to play PO.
Nolondil I will have to reread through the Elves of Golarion Book but it is sounding fun to RP in the PO.

While not great for gathering a bunch of players, I liked the idea of this group having an Elf or Half-Elf only policy. From what I understand you could actually outlaw other races from being in your settlement which sounds amusing.
Maybe down the road you can revisit the idea or create a more extremist settlement offshoot.

As a half-elf Ranger, I will no doubt come out of the wilds to visit your fine settlement often. I am sure its Elven beauty will soothe my soul. I hope to welcomed there!
Of course! All of our Elven and Half-elven brethren will be welcomed. As well as Elf-friends. Thank you all for your interest in our Elven settlement. I hope Elf-kind unites behind us to create and foster Elven culture.

This statement brought to you by Warstein Ale! Do you have Dwarves all over your settlement? Do you have problems with them talking and saying things? Order a shipment of Warstein Ale and your troubles will be gone! Nothing muzzles a dwarf like a tankard of Warstein Ale to the face! And when they've drunken themselves into a stupor, they are easy to roll outside your settlement's walls!
Order a shipment from Callambea Today!

What is important is that we keep the feeling of an Elven settlement. As long as we have a strong majority of Elves going around it should be fine, but if we start seeing too much humans, yes such rule (if it exist) could help limiting visiting rights to Elves. So, if you're not belonging to the settlement or a sponsored company and want to visit, be sure to bring an Elf with you :)
Maybe down the road you can revisit the idea or create a more extremist settlement offshoot.
I hope that not too far down the road, we would have enough interested players to sponsor an Elven Supremacist company. This kind of characters will very likely be a minority but they add a lot of flavor to the settlement and the game, plus they are a very good trigger for politics and RP within the settlement given that the majority of Elves will very likely be the benevolent kind more-oriented towards NG than CN (the supremacists should also have mithril balls and be good PvPers because they will find no lack of enemies outside ;)

Hi folks, and hanks for the invite Nolondil.
I am really tossed. I have two other friends that will be joining EE with me in August and they want to join Talongard, but from researching the people and companies that are going there, I think settlement management may be a bit too loosey-goosey for my taste.
- Where is TiD on the map so I can see how far it is from Talongard?
- Do you think Talongard will be an ally?
There really seems to be some interest in the LoEP and I might try establishing it from the get-go if I can still easily visit and RP with my friends.

TiD is currently at position Y which is at the Southeast near an entrance to a mountain range but in forests.
Ah! That is really off the beaten path and a long (aka dangerous) way from Talongard.
I would hate to start in TiD and get ostracized and run out of town, only to be so far from my friends.

Okay, after great consternation, I have decided to join TiD if you truly want me. Before you decide, let me describe my character...
Lord Xilanthus "Xil" Narthingad is a high born elf from a well respected family. His mother and father were killed in defense of the settlement long ago and Xil and his sister, Ardelia, were placed in the care of a priest of Abadar. Xil took to the priesthood with zeal and has aspirations of being a high priest someday. Ardelia, fell in love with a human man and ended up getting married. A couple of years after the marriage, she became pregnant and ended up dying in childbirth. Xil interpreted this as a sign from Abadar that half-elves are an abomination and contrary to the Laws of nature and to maintain the Purity and Nobility of the elven people, he must do whatever possible to stop it.
He would be a LN Cleric of Abadar (Law and Nobility domains if those exist) who I hope to get involved in the settlement politics rather heavily. He is a pure Traditionalist and he thinks he is fighting the good fight for the sustainability of all Elves. Religiously, he would be extremely conservative and possibly a zealot.
Let me know what you think.

Urlord! Unfortunately the game mechanics are against us on this one. You can only join settlements within one step of your alignment. (or so we've been told, not a mechanic I'm a huge fan of) You'd have to choose a Lawful settlement, or True Neutral one.
(For that matter you wouldn't be able to join the settlement of Talonguard either, as it's a NG society)

This alignment is a painful mechanism, since given our goal as a settlement we would normally accept any Elves whatever their alignment. However we have to recognize that there are good reasons why GW choose to implement alignment this way (if there were not some IG constraints, alignment would become meaningless).
Practically speaking, you could be two step away from the settlement alignment depending on the alignment of your company (if it is sponsored), also maybe we can adapt your backstory with an Elven god or the Green faith ? In any case, I'm sure we will be able to figure out something and I invite you to register on TiD's forums to discuss it so we can find an interesting and meaningful backstory compatible with the game constraints.T7V Jazzlvraz Goblin Squad Member |
Nolondil, please don't forget you can aim for a Great Elven Kingdom, expanding your alignment-options with another Settlement--or Settlements--joining you once that mechanic's available. Before then, perhaps, you can get some mileage out of role-playing certain members of your community as Elves-in-exile (or, tantalisingly, on secret missions elsewhere).
If you choose to think about building your own second Elven Settlement, the two nearest hexes are -06.18 and -03.18. Once again, we'll have to see when we can all think about building from scratch, but you know you'll find lots of friends to help if that's the right road for you.

The way I understand it, every Member of a Settlement must start out within one Alignment Step of the Settlement itself. I don't believe it's required to stay that Alignment.
I'm not sure you're right about being able to stretch two steps via a Company. If the Company is Sponsored, I believe that means every Member of the Company must also be a Member of the Sponsoring Settlement, so they would have the same restrictions as other Members of the Settlement.

I have a hard time believing there won't be some consequence to the settlement for "circumventing" alignment restrictions in this way. Through increased unrest/corruption, or something, if not flat out ejection if the alignment gap isn't corrected within a certain amount of time. Anyway that's getting a little off-topic, sorry for the distraction :P
Nihimon Goblin Squad Member |
Only characters within one Alignment step in both their Core and Active Alignment can join the settlement, and if your Core Alignment falls out of that range you are forced out of the settlement.
What I read from that is that your Active Alignment can drift farther than one step.
If you're a member of a Settlement, you should have access to all the benefits of that Settlement regardless of your alignment.
I have a general memory of Lee or Stephen making a similar point, but don't have time to do more research right now. It's hard finding something like that when your keyword is "Alignment" :)
Urlord |
Then the closest would be True Neutral, which would seem pretty lawful to all you Chaotic folks. I think I could do that, and it would allow me some leeway to tolerate the more chaotic members of the LoEP. I fould play TN as an elf on a mission and Good-Evil & Law-Chaos be damned. See, I'm flexible :-)
I will Apply to TiD and then register at the other forums so I we can discuss the available elven deities and find one that would work.
Thanks for the heads up.
